Trimming volcano liquid pad

Does anyone have any tips on how to trim a volcano liquid pad? I just got mine in the mail today, and its definitely going to need to shrink to fit in my gvg.

I just cut it with scissors, cutting around it , until it is slightly bigger than GVG. Then I compress it a little bit and push it down so it fits tightly into GVG´s neck.
