UK goverment wants to scrap need for scientific advice on drugs policy

Migrated topic.
Thank you bMh - well worth a read...and when you've read it you think "What can I do to help?"

At the bottom of the article is the news that the scientists who resigned have formed their own independent organisation:

Earlier this year, the ACMD members who resigned after David Nutt's sacking launched their own independent committee to provide definitive scientific advice on the risks of drugs. The Independent Scientific Committee on Drugs includes scientists, drug-treatment professionals and representatives from the police. It is committed to assess, in public, the evidence on the relative risks and harms of drugs without regard to political sensitivities.

They have their own site, and on it a page where you can donate to support them...which I think all UK members here should think about doing.8)

its a real shame the governments going this route, but you really have to ask whats the point of having the scientific advisory boards if they completly disregard their advice anyway. Since professor david nutt was fired as the chairman, their true colours were shown. The council was just a tool for government to cite sources to excuse their drug policies, after being corrected, they fire one of the finest advisors, and lost dr. king, both invaluable in what they do. i guess if people wont allow themselves to be minipulated for the politicians whim, their no longer useful.
