using shredded bark- can I extract without powdering?

I have only made one other extraction using a stb with powdered bark. Recently some shredded bark fell from the sky so I thought I'd extract some goodies from it. want to try A/B this time.

Do I have to powder it or is it just as well to proceed with shredded, perhaps letting it soak in the acid or base longer? Something like that?

As far as I know, (from what I have read so far as reading on this forum), you can use shredded bark but it wont extract near as much as if it were powdered. More surface area, more contact, more to extract.

It might be a little harder to work with as well. If I were doing it, I would double the amount of time I am letting the bases, acids and solvents sit in the 'muck'.
