using waterbath for STB tek WITH solvent

Migrated topic.

Swim was reading some of Youkaindole's posts about how he would perform STB with no agitation, but simply letting the containers sit in a hot water bath with tons of solvent for 3 days or so before pulling.

Swim is wondering if that sounded a bit dangerous- he worries of containers busting due to buildup of pressure with the added heat.

If one where to perform such a tek with nalglene carboys- with toluene as a solvent. What temps would be considered safe with regards to pressure buildup-?

Swim likes the idea of a hotbath, makes perfect sence- he just worries about safety (even though such a thought experiment would be carried out in an outdoor garage away from flame and such)

Also, with nalgalene (sorry about the spelling)- would it be much of a consideration if only half of the carboy was submerged? Swim worries that possibly uneven heating could also add stress to the container.

edit:

vapor pressure/temp info (not in mmHg, prolly some other unit... torr??)

looking at this link....

If you are worried about pressure build up just occasionally open the valves and let it out. If its really low and lots of air comes out its entering dangerous territory. SWIM knows someone who did this with no problems. He used a seperatory funnel though so not plastic involved. I don't know off hand what types of plastics can work with what kinds of solvents.
