Vapor Genie: thumbs up or thumbs down

In the story I am writing, one of the characters is interested in vaporizing DMT but does not like smoking, and as such is interested in getting some kind of vaporizing device.

My question is, would it be realistic for this guy to spend $100 on a glass vaporgenie (given that he is not flush with cash)? Would it efficiently vaporize DMT, work well enough to provide breakthroughs, and also vaporize (not burn) MJ?

Or would he be better off rigging up some kind of bong-like device using his bowl left over from his college days?

I know the VG has received generally positive reviews by some ppl's foafs on this forum but just seems too good to be true and was hoping for a little more input. Aside from the testimonials on the VG website, I have not been able to find any other reviews on the interweb.

@ Jorkest - great for spice? Or MJ? Or both?

Can you be sure it's not causing combustion? Or do you always get a little burning when you use it to vaporize?

Agree the cost is excessive... but for the character in my story it could be worthwhile if it 1) Works as well or better than The Machine for DMT (in terms of delivering breakthroughs, efficiency), 2) produces vapors that are not too harsh, and 3) also vaporizes MJ well.

My character has been looking for a decent vaporizer for his GF for a while and it would kill two birds w/ 1 naturally-occurring-aggregate-of-minerals if the VG worked well for both purposes.
 
I have a glass vaporgenie. Other than that (for DMT), I have used a glass steamroller with steel wool.

I have to say that the VG is badass. I used a torch style lighter and I never taste any burning. The ceramic element blocks the flame and heats the dmt to vaporizing temp quickly.

Some spice vapor sticks to the glass. After its set unused for a day you see white circular crystal patterns on the glass towards the bowl. I am currently using 4 screens but I think a couple more or a piece of steel wool would probably be better.

I did try MJ with it at first, but I use a bag style vaporizer already and that works great. I wouldn't want to dirty up my spice pipe as I run solvent through it to rescue all the spice that has collected along the stem walls.

I have loaded 50mg spice into the VG freshly cleaned and vaporized it easily with 3 tokes. I tried to hit it again afterwards to see if there was anything left and got no vapor. The next day after cooling there was a small amount of spice (a thin layer of circular crystals couldn't have been 2mg) ..that had stuck along the inside of the stem. I think thats pretty efficient.

I do not regret the purchase at all. However, the instructions on the site were written for the non glass model. They state that a torch lighter is not recommended. I found that the torch lighter does work very well with the glass model, much better than a regular flame. The hemp twine they sell on the site is garbage.

I really like mine.... if you develope any tricks please share them. i have been thinking about adding some screens or steel wool to cut down on the amount of dmt that collects in the pipe.
 
i'm with my brother jorkest on this one. the VG is absolutely AWESOME!!!! i've got a collection of them as well (glass one should be arriving any day now and i am beside myself in anticipation!)... don't hesitate! get one immediately.....you'll love it. they are beautiful works of art in their own right as well.....

....and yes, more screens for sure. i've got about 5 or 6 in each of mine.

hahaha awesome antrocles...i have quite a collection of them too..and my glass pipe will be here in a day or too as well!!! i gotta get extracting to get some spice ready :D
 
As I noted in my mini review above, I use a torch lighter. It works way better because the ceramic element is nestled down in the glass bowl cap.

Side-note: I would love to find a glass bowl for my bong that would accept the glass / ceramic cap from the VG.
 
I just got a Vapor Star - similar idea but with a metal cap which takes in the flame. Need to test with a torch lighter... but afraid of burning the bowl, which is wooden. Have not tried with Spice or Changa yet... I am having a little break from smoked dmt for the moment.
 
OOH mad..thats a great idea..i ordered a torch lighter for just the glass pipe..im really excited to smoke some spice from it....
 
A cheaper and similiar device is the vapor star. The beauty of it is: You can use it with almost any Bong on the market. The problem is, that it's made of wood and it can be hard to open it up after vaporisation, because the wood tends to deform (or the metal vapor thing? More likely...)

Another alternative would be using the brillo-machine-bong method. This would be the cheapest alternative.
 
ive tried the vaporstar and couldnt ever really get the hang of it...still a cool idea...maybe one day ill try getting it to work again
 
thumbz down ive found that vapes are ah waste of product with minimul health benifits reguarding smoke inhalation
its proved that mj smoke is anti imflamitory and actually has anti cancerous properties
so unless yer unable to handle smoke due to lung or throat problems its not really worth filtering via heated combustion insted of direct flame smoke. as for dmt eye think it would beh tha same loss or not work at all.
a water pipe might beh good idea though since it allows you to inhale massive amounts of smoke with ease
u dont realize untill u exhale how big of a hit you took which would beh harsh in ah regular pipe
but then again with water pipes u need to load/use more product otherwise a small amount used in a reg non filter pipe wouldnt be as efficent/effective in ah water type

Do you not find it tickles the shit out of your throat with weed?
Iv tried it a few times with MJ and everytime it tickles so much that i just end up coughing and spluttering for 5minutes and cant keep it in!!!
