Very clear heptane, normal or strange?

Hello everyone, SWIMs first post in this forum will be bugging you more knowledgeable people with a newbie question

SWIM has used a regular STB tek and has been extracting DMT with naptha(heptane) from the bark/NaOH mix. Usually when SWIM has seen pictures of similar extractions (or "pulls" SWIM believes they are called) the naptha turns slightly yellow-ish, SWIMs is perfectly clear, like water.

Is this normal or could it be that the heptane SWIM is using is not pure heptane and thus can't pull the DMT out of the solution?

heptane and naptha are often interchanged but they are not the same solvent.

when doing pulls often the solvent will take on a yellow tint, sometimes it will be cloudy, sometimes clear. if the ph is high enough, do another pull, and freeze precip it to see if anything forms in the bottom of the jar.

what leads you to believe that your heptane is not pure?

Just generally that as far as SWIM has heard naptha can be combinations of different solvents, was pretty sure it's pure heptane, but the clearness made SWIM doubt. SWIM did 3 pulls, will keep the MHRB mix overnight and see if any crystals have formed out of the two jars in the freezer. Should probably have done this first... Patience has never been any of SWIMs stronger virtues xD

Hopefully SWIM has simply bothered the Nexus for no reason :')

On second thought, despite lurking for quite some time, SWIM has (obviously) not understood the difference between naptha and heptane, mind filling in the blanks?

Heptane is much more selective than naptha.
Clear pulls that still contain plenty of white alks are common.

In one of the three snowglobes it does indeed seem like crystals have formed nicely, the two others however SWIM isn't entirely sure. There seems to be small white "deposits" along the sides, but they are strangely shaped, more like clumps than the crystals of the first snowglobe. SWIM will leave them over the day and check on them once SWIM gets back from work.

And about the naptha, SWIM's been looking pretty much all over the internet for information and finally found a security sheet.
Ingredients: 100% Naptha (Petroleum) ... :/

SWIM checked the boiling/melting temperatures and they are very close to those of heptane (Difference of 4 and 2 degrees respectively).
I'll just leave everything until tonight, shoudl be able to make a good estimation by then.

MHRB was shredded, bought from jimjamshop, if that matters ^^

After a few days of re-reading teks, evaporation, another freeze precipation and quite a bit of patience SWIM has finally ended up with a pyrex dish full of snowflakes SWIM is confidant are DMT.

Thanks for the support throughout the extraction, SWIM would never have thought that the extraction of DMT alone would teach SWIM a valuable lesson.

Just shows how much is lost should one decide to buy DMT instead of making it oneself...
