Whack Results? Help pleeeez

SWIM extracted using the erowid A/B extraction guide. (Erowid DMT Vaults : Extraction : QT's DMT Extraction Guide)
and came out with a flaky somewhat glistening light brown dried substance.

SWIM allowed my it to evaporate for four days and this is what I got.

There was still lye in the mixture when SWIM poured it into the glass baking dish to evaporate.

Is this a safe smokeable form of DMT? or did SWIM not follow the tek correctly and create whack DMT?

Heres a picture. (it appears white a much lighter color because of the flash but it's really a light brown.)

DO NOT SMOKE LYE. If you inhale any lye dust it will hurt your lungs and possibly cause scars in your lung tissue. Why people insist on still using lye for DMT extraction is beyond me.

You need to remove the lye.

what you have is probably dmt if you did the tek right, yes.. probably has some impurities (like lye you mentioned or plant oils or whatever), that can be cleaned up with a recrystalization

Scrape everything up, weigh it.. Then put in a glass, pre-warm some naphtha/hexane/heptane in hot water bath (no flames on!), add 30ml of solvent per gram of impure product you added to the glass, swirl around for a few minutes

Most will be redissolved and possibly some darker goo will stay undissolved on the bottom.. Just pippete/decant the clearer solvent layer, and stick the closed container with the cleaner solvent in the freezer (goo can be throw away, or if you want to make absolutely sure, add another 5ml warm solvent to the goo, swirl a bit more and separate adding this to the other cleaner solvent, and then throw away the goo


as for your question to ron's comments, yes you can also use sodium carbonate in an A/B.. But lye is fine if you are careful (spills in the eye=blindness! etc) , and if you recrystalize and/or make a sodium carbonate in your solvent before freezing/evapping

You need to remove the lye.

If one thinks there is lye in the product they should remove it before ingestion. However if done properly there is no significant lye contamination. Also you can not inhale lye via vapors (The BP is too high 1388 degrees celcius). Only if you inhaled the dust, just use a filter or a water pipe if you are that worried about it. Chemists use NaOH for everything, it is simple to remove as it does not dissolve in organic solvents. If you think you contaminated it with NaOH just do a recrystalization with hexane. No lye will come over.
Next time always remove ALL of the water, it is better to lose a little organic solvent than contaminant your product with the aqueous junk.

Perform an acid/base extraction to clean up that mess. Do you really want to smoke/ingest lye and other assorted crap? Take the time to clean it up this kind of thing can't be rushed.
