What can you say about "Petroleum Ether"??

If you take a fast look to the wikipedia page for the petroleum ether, it seems that other sinonimous of this compound are Naphtha and VM&P naphtha!
So, because i live in EU and i can't find pure naphtha nor VM&P at the moment, can be a good idea to go into a big DIY store and ask for one of the sinonimous of this petroleum ether? Should it work as naphtha for a STB extraction?

this is why wiki is not always reliable.

if you inject pet ether into a gas chromatograph, you may get 5 to 10 peaks.
inject vm&p, you may get something like 143 peaks.

pet ether is excellent for re-x, a good substitute for hexanes

Petroleum ether is a mix of alkanes. It is classified by its boiling point, and there are sever ranges available: 30 to 40 °C, 40 to 60 °C, 60 to 80 °C, 80 to 100 °C, 80 to 120 °C and sometimes 100 to 120 °C as stated in the Wiki article. To get the lower boiling point PEs, their composition is primarily pentane, hexane, and their isomers. Hence the small number of spectral peaks that Benzyme speaks of.

I have used 30 to 65 °C which is a little to volatile for extractions if you use any heat at all. It will boil at the temperature of hot tap water. However, I have gotten some beautiful results from extractions with yields in the 1% range using this.

Ya petroleum ether and naptha are both just a mix of alkanes, or petroleum distillates, and you should be fine just using petroleum ether since you can find that one.

Back when I was still intending to use it in extractions, I couldn't find answer to this question: is 30-40°C pet ether at room-temperature less effective in dissolving DMT than (1) 100-120°C pet ether at room temperature; (2) 100-120°C pet ether heated to 90°C; if so, why?

Anyway, I just found a shop that would make naphtha for me if I give them the ingredients/proportions. Searched the internet but can't find it anywhere. Any clues?

As said before, naphtha is a mixture of aliphatic hydrocarbons such as pentane, hexane, heptane, octane, and different non-aromatic isomers.

You could just ask for some hexane or heptane or a mixture of those and it will work fine.

Naphtha is just lighter fluid...Ronsonol, Swan, Newport...£1.65 in any newsagent...simples..

I read somewhere that lighter fluids have some impurities that to some extent can be damaging to the brain but considering how many people use it i'll just go for it.
