What expectations do you bring to DMT?

I wonder, do people go into the DMT experience with direct questions they want to explore, or as an open slate? With some expectation that something grander will be accomplished, or just for the experience itself? Clearly for some people it’s one and done.

I don’t think I bring many expectations myself, although maybe some of that is happening subliminally.

And if you do bring expectations with you, are they usually met? If they aren’t, how does that affect the way you feel about the experience afterward?

Personally, I think it’s something I can’t really explain that draws me back. Call it the WOW factor, and that overwhelming love that leaves me dripping with gratitude, often just repeating “thank you.”

I go into the experience without expectations. I've tried bringing questions or concerns in with me, but I feel it's like talking to a tree or the ocean. No response.

The experience almost always makes me laugh and feel better and more optimistic about everything if I go into it with a Zen mind – no mind.

The Sun has no concern for your foibles... yet sunlight fosters and supports everything. You need only experience it for what it is....

I expect a full-on enlightenment with complete liberation from the cycle of birth. God should appear and walk me through the process while angels sing praises and celebrate the occasion. Then people should talk about me for ages, write books, and make statues. I expect at least a 30m tall white marble statue showing my supreme physique and intellect. Something like that is to be expected before any trip.

Seriously, why expect anything at all? I may set an intention for the session, and that's about it. We're not computers, but organic representations of life. The nature of medicine is balance, and it'll bring you there if you let it. Intention could set a direction, but even then, you may end up with a result you couldn't see before. That's why we partake, imo - to look beyond our usual stories. The person who sets out on the journey and the one coming out of it are not really the same. Yes, we share the same flame, but the vessel kind of changed in the process. Expectations just create an unnecessary resistance and chain you to one version of yourself. Get loose, get wild, get mad for a while. It'll do you good ;)

for this time period i goto/see the same things every time, im enjoying the proof that reality is not what i was "taught" it is and that im finding my own reality.
its exciting and i dont like to put our puny human expectations into something so abstract.
it could be easy to go into this field thinking one has to have intentions and all the other stuff that is suggested by dmt "gurus" but i think that all adds a layer of "humanity" into a world where humanity does not exist.
i know what i mean even if this text is not quite saying it 😂😂

I mean, no you don't have to have intentions, but they can be helpful, especially when starting out. Being able to ground oneself in something calms the system as does reminders while you're in there of why you're putting yourself through such an ordeal 😂. Expectations are also very different from intentions.

How do you know humanity doesn't "exist there?" Actually what do you mean by that? I wouldn't be surprised if there's a Nexian up to some Hyperspace shenanigans as we speak!

And why are humans "puny" rather than "in development." If we were that puny, such to be meaningless or less than, I doubt we'd get so many reports of ecstatic reactions from entities at someone's arrival.

One love

I remember being pretty disappointed after extracting it and not getting the results I expected from reading about it here. I don't get entities, but that doesn't bother me anymore. I've come to the opinion that it's a very personal experience, not something you can read about and expect a repeatable experience.

But at the same time, I think reading about it can set expectations and those expectations can influence the direction and content of the trip. Some people are under the impression that DMT is solely a communication device with entities that really exist on the other side of a veil. But if not everyone has that experience, even after many trips, then it must be subjective. I think there's a bit of placebo involved, once the expectations blur with belief that DMT + vape 3 hits = entities. Maybe you just have to believe to see them.

I'm okay with it just being a purely mental and psychological experience happening in each individual's unique imagination. I'm not consciously bringing any questions, I think I'd have to let them go to really dissolve. I approach it like going to sleep - not expecting to accomplish anything, more letting myself defrag and observe. The questions/answers are already there subconsciously.

Given the nature of the experience, being completely out of this world, it wouldn't surprise me if, perhaps, some people frequently go to some types of places that others don't a visa versa. I have both types of experiences personally, but at the same time mine also seem alien to what I read often times, generally.

But this ^^ at the end of the day regardless.

So far I've never managed to set an intention, I came into DMT with the intention to focus on my *Tinnitus but it never makes it past the first hit!

*Tinnitus being that brain-created aural sensation aka Fake Sound, that sound doesn't need to be listened to but its always there unless fully engrossed in something.

I now avoid watching Trip reports on Youtube so that I don't lead my own experiences down someone else's rabbit hole.

So yep, not really any expectations of DMT.

Well now that the cat is out of the bag regarding my other thread on all this...

Expectations of large DMT doses on its own?
A variably chaotic and decoherent psychedelic whirlwind, filtering through an ego dying to make sense of it all, but usually only managing to misinterpret the hell out of it - along with (hopefully) some brief vestigal glimpses of profound oneness and freedom.

Expectations of a bit of DMT on top of LSD, next to a giant quartz resonator or in a stone circle?
A journey through the proverbial underworld of the self, and hopefully succesful resurrection of a non-dual cosmic sense of self with vastly expanded perceptual abilities, for several hours.

The modern notion of not having any goal in mind and just blasting yourself with high doses to spin the wheel of fortune or explore is all well and good but it seems to be a product of how disconnected we've become to the original purpose of working with these medicines and how our ancestors often harnessed them IMO.

That said, too strong an expectation, or clinging to any concept in general, just seems to inhibit my ability to really let go.
