hey guys , so afoaf got intouch today and said this :

"i did my first extraction last night, i left the solvent infront of a fan for a few hours to evaporate, in these few hours a the whole jar more or less turned to a goo, i then put it in the freezer overnight and went to check this morning, only to find it was even more goo ! i couldn't see any crystals. I thought maybe my freezer is not cold enough , but it is as cold as i can get it so i can't change that, what do you think is happening and what should i do next? i have sent links to some pictures so you have a better understanding of what i am dealing with, thanks in advance for the help ! there shouldn't be any water in the solvent when it goes in the freezer so there should be nothing to freeze.

the bubbles are an indication of an emulsion which is a mix of solvent and goo, an emulsion can be broken with a gentle heating and you should end up with a definite separation of the 2 layers.

are you doing something like this...

warm goo
add warm naphtha
mix and allow to separate
decant solvent from goo very carefully
evap slightly with fan
freeze

ahhh maybe i need to warm the naptha a lil more , i have been thinking these bubbles are the DMT since they are crystaly , so the end result before putting in the freezer should just be a clear jar of solvent ?

the colour of the solvent isn't always an indication of its content, what you want is solvent that is free of all signs of the based mix.

I don't think the DMT will be in the bubbles specifically, it will probably be in all the goo.

thanks man , there seem to be 3 layers when heated the goo and solvent, the bottom black layer, a middle bubbly crystaly layer and then the solvent clear layer , this is what i have been doing putting the clear AND the crystal layer into a jar , thinking the bubble layer has the DMT because it is crystals?

that's part of your problem, the bubbles are an emulsion, lets say 50% solvent 50% goo, you don't want any goo at all, you want to have a definite line between 2 layers (goo on the bottom and solvent at the top) before you separate.

when you separate its always better to leave a little solvent than to pull a little goo.

do a search for emulsions to get more answers on how to deal with them.

thanks man you been a huge HUGE help, if i can't get a fine line and there are 3 layers , if i just take the clear solvent and leave the goo behind will i still get DMT from just the solvent or is this the problem that the DMT is in the goo layer and i need to get them into 2 clear layers. thank you once again and i promise you my dear friend this is my final question :)

taking only the clear solvent and not the emulsion layer will still result in you getting some DMT, there will be some goodies in the emulsion layer but probably not much. You can always do another pull to make sure you get everything.

if it works out let us know, its always good to have a conclusion to threads like these as opposed to no one finding out the final result.

ill be sure to post results mate thank you so much you have been a massive help , i think i might leave it for a little while see if they seperate first then if not hope for the best !

As 3rdI already stated, the goodies must be somewhere in there. You could separate as much of the solvent from the goo as possible, evap it (wasteful but you'll know with certainty if that's where the spice was) and if you get nothing from it you know it's all still in the aqueous fase waiting to be pulled. The best of luck.

just thought i would do an update , ended keeping the solvent that i filtered from the goo/ice after first freeze precep, left to evap until went cloudy and then put in freezer, it has been in the freezer for over 24 hours now and still no sign of crystals.

as for the goo , i melted this again and added solvent again , the emulsion was also there again but i pulled the solvent anyway. this has been left to evap for almost 2 days , also no sign of crystals .

both jars os solvent are very cloudy but no sign of crystals, i am guessing the DMT was in the emulsion layer :( lost most hope now but at least a lesson learnt.

just wondering if people had any idea how this emulsion layer would of came about ? only thing i can think of was not enough na0h since it was MHRB. maybe to low a PH ? also any advice on what to do if this happens again on next extraction or how to avoid it ?

thanks guys and will keep you updated
