What is Naphta exactly?

Im learning about DMT extraction, im pretty new, and ive seen a crucial ingredient for A/B tek extraction is Naphta, I was wondering exactly what is Naphta? Is it just gasoline? where can i find it? Im from south america, i don´t know what other names does it has...

is a light to medium, aliphatic petroleum distillate consisting of a mixture of n-alkanes, branched alkanes and cycloalkanes. The exact composition can vary from batch to batch, and according to the local technical specification for the particular grade of naphtha in question.

Similar petroleum distillates have their own name depending exactly where in the world you're encountering them. Search my posts and those of @downwardsfromzero for further details. Search term 'benzine' may provide more relevant results.

Gasoline fuel is unsuitable as an extraction solvent due to the many additives it contains, some of which are toxic.

If it's the formal name you're after, it's petroleum ether.

You'll find it in either light, mid, or heavy potentially. Or it'll have 40-60/60-80/80-100

Each 'weight' having subsequently higher boiling points as expressed in those ranges above.

or 'medium' for 'mid' - which may be self explanatory, but maybe not? The boiling ranges aren't set in stone, I suspect, so different industrial uses may refer to a slightly different product.

That will also depend on the local language - international comparison of names for petroleum distillates is something of a minefield. Even the term "petroleum ether" could be considered somewhat misleading…

Pedantic and irrelevant on my part, but that's not the case. Gasolina is only used for fuel in all variants of Spanish. However in Chile they use "nafta" to mean gasoline as well (I didn't know that before, just looked it up), so there can be confusion there.
