What kind of jars?

So I want to extract my whole 454g in a jar all at once using a STB tek. Is there a specific type of jar that works better than others for large ammounts or should I just do this in separare smaller containers? Any input would be nice.

I find the big 1 quart Ball or Mason jars great for large extractions. The lids are great. you can tighten em up and they will not leak. They are tough. extreme heat to frozen solid.

Great all purpose containers, and cheap.

I did a 200 my first time, and I ended up with loads of yellow goo that I regretably threw away (I later found out how to get the spice out of it or to jsut freeze, scrape, and smoke). Only ended up with like .3 g (very disappointing but I learned a lot). The second time I did 100g and my first pull had .5g in it, sadly my jar blew up on me (luckily I avoided any burns) so I only got the one pull. My 3rd time I did 200g and ended up with 1.4g of good spice. Now that I know what I am doing I would like to not have to keep making extractions and just get it done with at one time so I can be stocked for awhile and so I can make changa :)

for extracting that amount of mimosa you're gonna need some bigger container.. This is going to have to be either some big HDPE gallon (3.8l) jug, sold in hardware stores, kitchen stores or as some kind of product in the supermarket that you will need to empty to reuse the jug, or otherwise one big 3-4l glass jar/container, normally sold in kitchen supply stores (or big supermarkets or hardware stores too), like those used for storing pasta/rice or whatever, if you know what I mean. Now mind you, for this amount of bark, with the noman's suggested ratio you're gonna need 6l, so nearly twice what can fit in this gallon jug. So you have a few options:

Either you make it in two jugs/jars, or you make a smaller quantity (like, lets say, 250-300g should still work ok in this sized containers), or you change your tek. Many people have used gallon-sized jugs for BLAB tek and it worked fine. I dont know if the acid soak in the beginning is what makes the difference, or if noman's tek ratio is just overkill in terms of water (which helps in separation of solvent and mimosa layer because its more free-flowing, but doing less than it might work ok too). BLAB tek uses limonene, though, which I highly recommend but if you dont want to change your tek you can do one of the other options I just mentioned.

good luck and let us know how it went

The problem I had last time with gallon pickle jars is that it was hard to get all the naphtha out of it. Would a one gallon wine jug fix this problem? Where would you buy such a thing? Brewing stores?

I stated earlier in this thread that I used big 1 quart jars for larger extactions.

I stated that wrong.

I have a few 1/2 gallon Ball jars. I did an lb of bark between the two and they work great.

Glass one gallon wine jugs do work good also, get em at the grocery store in the wine section.

Given that you had an exploding jar AND, on another occasion, a small yield, how about perfecting your technique in the 100g range before stepping up? 100g should yield around a gram which is 20 VERY strong doses, so why the hurry to step up when you haven't had a decent success? As in most things, start small and modest and build up.

Cheers,

I could do that but I believe I know what I am doing now, the blowing up jar was a result of a heat bath gone bad. The first pull I got from it was pretty good though. I feel like the last extraction done was almost perfect. I'll probably be doing 2 200g extractions.
