what went wrong?

Well i was almost finished with my first extraction the DMT crystals were at the bottom of the jar and i poured all the naphtha into another jar to be recycled i added 20mL of acetone to dissolve all the DMT so i could place it on a pyrex plate and evaporate it. However when i had the fan over the pyrex to make evap. faster i noticed while all the acetone evaporated theres still liquid in their which seeming came out of nowhere.

Anyway my first assumption was that it must be water that the acetone pulled from the extremely humid air im surrounded by so i cut off the bottom of a water bottle and poured some NaOH into it i then placed this into the pyrex dish and covered it with cling wrap. Im hoping the NaOH will dry this which it will if its water but my concern is it smells very naphtha-like even though i know it cant be all naphtha i took a very small taste and i cant even describe it it was bitter and burnt my tongue, had an acetone and naphtha aftertaste. i know its probably very dangerous to do this but it was an extremely small amount and i know naphtha and acetone cant be fatal in such a small amount... has anyone else had a similar issue? will the lye as a desiccant be sufficient?

It's prolly water coming from acetone evaporation (evaporation is endothermic so the mix become cold and water condensation appears) or the water was in your acetone if this one wasn't anhydrous.

Why don't you let it evaporate under a fan ? If you want to use a dessicant there are better choice than the dangerous lye. Epsom salt (200°F 2 hours in oven) for exemple

I'd say patience is your best friend here. I would not REMOVED around with it and just let it dry. Even if it's some water that came along with your aceton, it wont hurt. it will just take longer to dry fully.

Just leave it for a couple of days and check if it doesn't dry out. I think in the absolute worst case it might be plastic that got liquified by your nps/aceton. but thats not likely and it will probably just dry out in a couple of days without remaining any traces (maybe some harmless minerals if its water)

Acetone will often leave liquid as it evaporates so quick leave it see if it solidifies, like mentioned above its veryu possiblke some water is in there too, possibly some heavy hydrocarbons. Did you do a safety test on the naptha?

Well good news was it definitely was water after an hour or so of being in my NaOH homemade desiccator chamber the liquid was gone! bad news is something must have happened because i went from having off-white slightly yellow crystals to having this sticky brown substance. Still curious and wanting to not be wasteful and breakthrough i let the goop sit until no solvent smell was present (and yes i did do an evaporation test on my naphtha prior to starting) i smoked this goop which scaled out to be 115mg amazingly i got very noticeable effects but absolutely nothing i had expected after hitting it my heart beat really fast and i got this crazy body high also got a sorta-mushroom like visuals but it was nothing too special.

I think i might try ayahuasca brew next, or ill try to do another extraction however i wont use any acetone this time! lol i'm really starting to grow a bit impatient though and yes i know patience is a virtue but i just really want to see what the spirit molecule has to offer!
