Have seen tecs using hdpe bottles and the like, and am wondering is this (or PET) safe to be using with strong alkali and non-polar solvents?
Is it best to stick to glassware?
In short, better not. If you are going to use anyways (NOT recommended), be sure to check what kind of plastic it is, and that its compatible with the chemicals used, as in the links of the previous question. But again, better not use plastic and only use glass, read links below for explanations why:
Warning to those using plastic containers
Using plastic for extractions
Thanks and yes, this is as I thought.
I have proper glass on order.
I'm trying to ensure enough mixing of the solvent within the 30second window of heat equilibrium, and have done a couple in a tall glass storage jar. I'm simply stirring this fast with a long spoon as I add the solvent, but am wondering if this is leaving spice in the mix due to insufficient mixing. Am I being paranoid or is a sealed container to mix end over end going to yield better extraction? Also a bit worried about metal spoon against glass!
