why does "I" always have to be a capital

Migrated topic.
Because it is a proper noun.
A proper noun has two distinctive features: 1) it will name a specific [usually a one-of-a-kind] item, and 2) it will begin with a capital letter no matter where it occurs in a sentence.

^^ Like he said. But I see where you're coming from if you're musing over the whole egocentric thing. But I guess your ego is unique to you in the sense that it is a one-of-a-kind combination. Language and epistemology is interesting though.

Why isnt god capitalized?
Because god doesn't exist!

Sorry, couldn't resist. :p

Actually, god is often capitalized, it depends on the context in which you use it. If it's a proper noun than the only reason I can see for not capitalizing it would be to insult a theist.

Yeah, God is capitalized even to the point that when we refer to Him and all that is His, He is capitalized :d

Actually, I :) was enjoying delightful visions and exploring my inner landscape, when a thought appeared that I could read like text. The sentence ondulated across my space, and there appeared strectching high above the other letters, this great tower we commonly use as a symbol to represent ourselves. How proud and arrogant it seemed, and this struck me as blatantly unfair, and somewhat very significant. Could a little humility really do so much harm? The great "I" ...
I could of explained myself in the first post, if only typing had been easier at the time. And I couldn't wait either to ask the Nexians about this crucial matter... quite a sense of urgency overcame me!

i totally understand and agree - i always use a lower case "i" when i refer to myself. i was just giving you the rule of speech - a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away - i was an english teacher.

Jbark - VERY cool song - thanks for posting that.
I was looking for a tune by the Electric Prunes called "I" but i guess it's not on YouTube.... it would have fit right into the conversation too.
