Why is it so red spice? nice shield

QUESTION:

Why so reddish/brown?
Is it good for consumption?
Would you re-crystalize it? how?

I tried my usual extraction path, cyb´s A/B max ion tek.
Mimosa hostilis rootbark and Heptane as solvent

But this time, I tried filtering the MHRB material with a cheese cloth (actually and old t-shirt).
So, I boiled about 900gr of MHRB 3 times, had to split in two parts cause my pot wasn´t big enough... need a bigger one.
I added vinegar to the mix.
I eneded up with more than 8 Liters of mix, that I later reduced to 1,5 liters.
Then added some saline solution and the lye (pre-mixed in another solution).

I used a volumetric flask 2000ml, very long neck. Actually 2 of them. So I could mix it better and then just fill the other one to the long neck level for easier pipette extraction.
I used heptane as solvent, I bought it on a lab store (they request some paperwork in my country...) Did some evaporation tests (put a drop in a ceramic plate, wait a little and lick it... shouldn´t taste at all).

I preheated it to about 55ºC with a heathing plate.

I did some mediatations, listened to some shamanic music and tried to imprint the medicine with certain energy and intentions.

Did 3 extractions with about 150ml heptane in each, shook it 3 times and waited.
First one was so cloudy and kind of dark... second one too... third one has transparent but colored.

The yield was good, ended up with almost 10 grams. And I am sure there´s more material to extract on the mix on future shakings...
There was also a extremely red material (like red sugar) on the bottom that I put apart in another jar. Left it for re-crystalizations.

I don´t know why it´s so red... well... probably it contains fats and oils... I know some of the theory.
The pyrex dish was kind of oily too.

My plan is to re-crystalize half of it, to get whiter snowflakes... I have some lab grade petroleum ether, not sure which is the best re-crystalization technique.
And keep the other half for medicine... I´ve tried yellow and brownish spice before and I like it.

PD:
Cheesse cloth filtration is awesome, it´s a paradigm shift... a really nice way to optimize your resources and time.

Did you preheat the the soup to 55°C or the water bath to 55°C?
It could happen that some of the soup came with your pulls.
I would do a backsalt.
Check this thread out if you did not know it yet: IMPORTANT: spice color purity fallacy AKA is your dmt ok to smoke ?
It describes different dmt colors.

I preheated the basic soup, then pour the heptane at room temperature... which in Spain summer it´s like 33ºC anyway...
I´ll check the post... wanna give it a try to the brown stuff anyway, haha

WIth my first extraction I also endet up with a similar result.
The only difference was that nothing crystalized out.
Also tried it and worked just fine.

I recommend you to not directly heat the soup and instead use a hot water bath to heat the soup.
60°C should be fine for the water temperature.
Just pour in some hot water from the sink then place the jar inside the pan.
After I used water baths the color of the result was very white.

Thanks for advice.

I actually heated it with a lab hot plate with thermostat (those that have a magnetic stirrer). I have a 10L and 5L big ass flask of borosilicate. And I used a mixer on top, external (the magnetic stirrer is not powerful enough...)
I think this is gentler than an inox steel pan on top of a gas fire... Not sure if the bain marie would help...
I think that, I would get whiter color if I don´t heat up the mix, but probably less yield.

I think my solvent was so full of spice... never happened to me before, such big ratio of spice/solvent. (never done 900gr of mhrb before neither)
There was spice at the bottom of the jar even at room temperature...
And a lot of red looking sugar spice at the bottom of the jar.

Oh i do not know about extracting with a lab hot plate.
Probably it is fine then?
I wonder if the bottom of the jar is hotter then the content of the jar.
If yes then it could burn the soup.

Yes, it´s hotter, the hot plate it´s like an electric hot plate.
But it´s not as hot as a gas fire on steel.
It´s ok if you use a stirrer... it won´t burn the bottom.
You don´t really need the fancy stuff or electronics... just really good glassware. Cause normal glass might break with temperature changes (hot-cold-hot... like putting a hot glass jar on top of a cool surface). Borosilicate gives me ease of mind. (I wear flip flops on my basement...)
