After making a post i got this idea about how to make a flamless glass or metal and glass Spice pipe!

All one needs is a glass pipe bowl using a perfectly mounted magnifiing glass over top of bowl!

The magnifier will be mounted at the right hight and swivel to aim the solar energy!!

The magnifing glass will tilt one way or the other mounted over the top of the bowl...

One can tilot the magnifing glass at the right angle to capture the suns energy and direct it into the bowl onto the spice...

Never need a lighter again just use the sun!!


This uses the same princible that the boy scouts use to start a camp fire!

The only drawback I can see would be to do it without the sun... But I think it can still be done with the right lense and a 100w light source, or a laser.

Only used for lighting cannabis so far, and it seems to adda more spiritual feeling.

Huh. How do you get them out? Is there anything dangerous about opening one up? The reason I ask is because I know where there is one by the side of the road...seriously, right now.

Yep...those lenses are fresnel lenses and more powerfull than ordinary small magnifing glasses..

You can almost generate a death ray.. from a large big screen tv magnifier!

One can easily buy small ..[credit card sized thin fresnel magnifiers].. inexpensive ones that fit easily in your wallet..and stacking them on top of each other makes them more powerfull to increase ..sun light energy..

I think making a..[ solar pipe lighter].. is the easier project to make..

Im going to try to make a compact solar lighter using a small peice of pvc pipe shaping and stacking fresnel lenses untill the right power magnifacation..

This can only be used durring the day time on bright or cloudy days..but should work well...

Also there is ..NO POLUTION from a solar lighter!... just several diferent light spectroms from the sun!

Remember to ..[protect your eyes!].. when focusing the suns rays in proces of using or building a lighter!

I think a fresnel lense is made of a clear thin plastic sheet covering the entire outer screen of a modern big ..[FLAT] screen tv...

They.. [the plastic ones]..would be much easier and safer to remove then the older glass ones from older big screen tvs...

The credit card sized
magnifiers iae cheap and easier to use...

Your safest bet.... is to use several credit card magnifiers...

There is no danger except they are heavy, but totally worth the effort. Tools; screwdriver.
There are three glass lenses, each encased by two plastic lenses, in a round plastic thing.
Also the large screen fresnel lens, and a large doubesided mirror, and lots of copper wire.

Couldn't I just carry around the lens? That way I could light my pipes, bong, machine or anything else for that matter. Sorry to rain on your parade, but it think you're over complicating a very simple thing. Beside I can put the lens in my pocket and when I pull it out it will still be in one piece. I don't know that I can say the same thing about some sort of improvised solar pipe that might need a 10 or 12 or 15 inch standoff to hold the lens in the right place. :lol:

My friends and I used to do solar bong rips in the 80's. We would drive up to the snow line and pack fresh snow into a glass bong with a little fresh water in the bottom. The snow in the neck of the bong would cool the hit really well. We used a magnifying glass to burn the cannabis in the glass bowl and got the best cooled hits of tasty skunk weed you could imagine. You just have to be careful not to get the concentrated sun beam anywhere near your hands or you can quickly do some damage to yourself. :d

Would you be opposed to having me whip something up? I have an idea that involves a glass jar and a 10x8 overhead projector Fresnel lens that I was saving for years (seems like providence that it would be used for something like this).
