Why so many pulls if 30ml of NPS can hold 1g?

Say someone was extracting 50g of mhrb and did 6 pulls using 50ml of nps each time yielding 1g. Why couldn't they get 1g of spice doing one 50ml pull by maybe mixing and letting separate a few more times?

It depends on which nps you use, dmt isn't very soluble in naphtha so it requires several pulls to get all the dmt (unless heated). Dmt is much more soluble in limonene, you could probably get away with one 50ml pull. But i'm no expert, i have little experience.

1st, because the longer the naptha sits in the basic mixture, the more oils it picks up. People do quick, heated naptha pulls so that they can get cleaner spice and less plant oils. 2nd, because the longer the naptha is mixed into the solution, the cooler it becomes, meaning 30ml will not be able to hold that g. 3rd, because not all of the dmt can be grabbed only mixing once quickly.

If you dont mind your spice being alittle yellow, then by all means leave it in there longer. But you still run into the the problem of 50ml not being able to hold the whole G. I dont know why you do 6 pulls, but that might be alittle excessive. 3, maybe 4, is plenty, especially if the naptha is heated and the basic solution is warm as well.

I agree that the nps will pull in much to much plant oils if let to sit very long. Best bet is to ionize your solution with salt water and do quick 15 minute heated pulls if using naptha. Try doing 6 25ml pulls if using 50g bark. Just my 2 cents

Another thing I feel like I should mention is that the DMT's solubility in aliphatic hydrocarbon solvents (heptane, naphtha, etc.) is very temperature-dependent, hence the reason that one can precipitate their spice with cold temperatures. 50mL naphtha/heptane will only hold 1g spice at relatively high temperatures. When heated pulls are too hot, the NPS will pick up a lot of other oils and junk than it would not if it were warm. There is sort of a "happy medium" temperature range that one must hit in order to have supersaturated NPS pulls that don't contain a bunch on impurities.
