bark was extracted 3 years ago as was good, having a problem though. The bark did spend some time hot. It is powdered MHRB. It looks and smells the same as it did before. A STB approach with sodium hydroxide and used Naphtha as a solvent. It was freeze precipitated it. after pouring of most of the naphtha and drying out what appeared to be white dmt when it dried it was a yellow color that was also sometimes orange brown and never completely dried out. The end product was nothing like what had seen before under the exact processes and ratios used before. Ive figured it might be oxide. That doesnt seem very likely being it isnt very soluble in Naphtha.

I was thinking about pulling the rest of the naphtha off and trying a run with xylene. Do you guys have any ideas?

Ok it appears a lot of studies done here havnt had good control groups. After a batch was pulled with Naphtha and only got goo and low yields on old back i have an idea. Pull off remaining NPS, add xylene, Pull again and evaporate and observe. Add vinegar and zinc. I was thinking that when solution is turned back to a base ill have to find what is better lye or Lime. Should be able to give another opinion on it. Ive been reading lots of stuff in the forum on it and the loss from unusable bark is outweighed by a try at a cheap fix. :thumb_up:

The idea of adding zinc and vinegar together in two groups. one being lime other being sodium hydroxide and seeing which is more attracted to the NPS and not use that one.

Disaster... xylene does indeed smell as one person put it, "The Devils Kitchen". Starting for scratch with Q21Q21's Vinegar/Lime A/B Extraction Tek and try d-limonene. Thank you for the hard research that has been done here. I think im starting to like the chemistry experience. Thanks!

I've kept powdered MHRB for at least 2 years before and didn't notice any significant difference in the end product yield/quality, however the bark was stored in the fridge so it's not the best comparison. Even so, I wouldn't think the stability would be that different at room temperature.

In that case I probably would have tried to clean/recrystallize the product with naphtha: Put the impure extract in a vial/jar and add a small amount of warm naphtha, just enough to dissolve the DMT. The DMT dissolves in the naphtha very well while the yellow, oily stuff mostly stays at the bottom of the jar. Then decant out the DMT-containing naphtha into another jar while being careful to keep the oil behind. Then freeze precipitate out the DMT. You can repeat the process if needed.

If your new batch turns out the same way as the first maybe give it a try and see if it cleans it up.

What was the reason that you chose to go with xylene and d-limonene? I was under the impression that they would pull even more alkaloid impurities than naphtha, but I'm not certain as I've never used them.

From what Ive read in several places in the forum is that dmt oxide does not absorb into naphtha very well. There was some DMT, but swim has to clean it by salting, then basing and extracting it. Its worked well, but the yield was low. Swim was amazed when the freebase looked like it was climbing into the solvent when it was changing! The D-Limonene will pull more alkaloids, oxides, as well as regular nn-dmt. It also smells amazing! Swim has some pure zinc for a reduction experiment as well.

Swim Boiled 5 grams of rue with lemon juice last night and took it down with bread. Then took 150mg of spice. Felt nausea, but knows that staying very still and steady breathing will stop a purge. Ive noticed that when one stops breathing a purge is likely. Helps to relax and not become overwhelmed too. Swim later smoked spice and well as ate another 150 after 4 hours into. Swim used a half gram last night. Window was open air was coming in. Swim lives in wet place with ponds 7 miles from ocean. Was 60 degrees crickets chirping, frogs croaking (loves frogs) and was able to watch the sun rise with all its color and glory. Then came the birds and then sleep. Was nice swim loves being primal. Swim get distracted, but like meditation has to try and bring the mind back to mindfulness of moment. Tripping high doses is uncomfortable until a state of quite and wonder is achieved. Was thinking of starting at 200-250mg next time. Language dissolves and swim enjoys just being an animal and thinking of nature. Swim loves you all.
