Wow this is irritating me! (yellow oil)

Alright, I have done a bunch of extractions and have dealt with small amounts of yellow oil before. I always used ACE branded naphtha. The local ace was bought out so I had to get Klean Strip instead which I had never used. It evaporated cleanly.

I did an STB, and after freeze precipitating all my pulls I was left with a small amount of crystals. I evaporated the naphtha and was left with a ton of yellow oil.

I did a recrystallization and afterwards the yellow oil never solidified, even after all solvent smell was gone. After all solvent smell was gone I put it into a 91% ISO solution and evaporated it again to get rid of any hydrocarbons in there.

5 days later or so, and I still have this pyrex dish of yellow oil! Will it ever solidify? There are small crystalline structures mixed throughout but 90% of it is all yellow oil. I don't know if this is n-oxide, or some kind of plant oils that got pulled with this new naphtha I used.

If it is n-oxide, I really don't feel like doing the zinc conversion. I will likely just make a changa out of it and smoke it as it. I can't make a changa though because I can't weigh out all this yellow oil!

Will this stuff ever solidify enough to where I can actually do something with it? I hope I am just being impatient and it will eventually dry out, but after 5 days I am beginning to question how likely that is. (5 days since all the iso evaporated)

Well, I just had an idea. If worse comes to worse and this never solidifies I will just make an ISO solution with it again and put it in a shot glass I have pre-weighed. After the ISO evaporates I can weigh the shot glass again and I will know how much I have and how much caapi to add. My milligram scales max out at 20g though so this will only work if I have a shotglass that is very light...

Recrystalize it again, and in the last case indeed make some changa out of it, sounds like you got the idea right.

Sometimes you need to scrape and re-scrape things a little bit before it solidifies.

I suppose your solvent evaps clean, btw, right?

Yes, I did an evap test on the solvent as well as verifying other members here used it successfully. Even though it is sold as VM+P naptha I am wondering if it's mixture of hydrocarbons is more broad than the solvent brand I usually use. This stuff produced absolutely no white spice at all, even what did fall out in the freeze precip was all yellow. I didn't use any heat or long pulls. The mimosa I used was a new batch, but the same vendor I always use.

I will go with another recrystallization and see what happens. The stuff absolutely reeks of DMT so I am sure it is active although I haven't tried it yet.

Scratching with a spatula can help generate crystallization sprouts. What also helps me sometimes is a small splinter of glass which can initiate crystallization (or a little bit of already extracted DMT). If it is NOT DMT then it will probably never crystallize, try another recrystallization like endlessness mentioned.

You could also try washing it with activated charcoal as that gets nearly all the yellow/brownish impurities and leaves you with snow-white DMT without having to recrystallize.

I did another re-x and the same thing happened, yellow oil.

I'm guessing my issue is this new brand of naphtha I used. I'm undecided if I want to make a changa out of this oil or buy some heptane and try to do a re-x with that. I've read heptane is much more selective than naphtha so hopefully all that oil won't go into solution.

Like I said before, this stuff absolutely reeks of DMT (or indole) so I might just deal with it as is rather than having to go buy heptane.

What is the vaporization point of DMT? I am curious if I could rig together a double boiler and try to dry out the oil but I don't want to damage the alkaloids; however I am worried the heat from the boiling water might do so.
