4-ACO-DMT and anti-depressants question

Migrated topic.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on why my friend felt no effects from 4-AcO-DMT. She takes a couple of meds for mental health, and I'm fairly sure this was the cause, but because I'm not very knowledgeable in this area, I would appreciate the advice/assistance of someone who does know.

She takes Effexor (Venlafaxine) and Lamictal (Lamotrigine). She started with a small test dose to make sure whe wouldn't have a reaction, and then she took about 30mg (orally) after about 45 minutes. Around 45 minutes later, she took another 30mg. She said she felt no effects from these doses, and according to Erowid, 30mg should be a strong experience.

I also take meds, and had tested myself and had to take a higher dose (130mg total after a re-dose, though this was also due in part to tolerance, I think--the first time I tried it I got a response at 30mg, though it was not overwhelming) to feel the effects of the 4-ACO-DMT, but they were strong and clearly present.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I've heard quite a few people report dulled effects from SSRI's but they usually do get effects at normal doses. 30mg is a pretty strong dose of 4-aco, I can't imagine anyone needing 130mg. That is indeed quite curious.

I would consider the quality of the 4-aco-dmt, 30mg is considered a strong dose. If it isn't the medication it must be the 4aco-dmt itself, unless the both of you have abnormally high tolerances.

erwoid 4acodmt dose

Erowid ime is pretty spot on with the dose ranges.

SSRIs decrease the effectiveness of psychedelics by increasing the number of 5-HT molecules in the synapses at any given time, which then compete with the psychedelic molecules for 5-HT2A receptor sites to bind with. When a smaller percentage of the receptors are bound to the psychedelic, the less dramatic the subjective effects.

However, if you up your dose, the effects generally do get stronger (I have a friend who takes Luvox and they need about 3x as many mushrooms as I do to get to the same place, but they *can* get there).

Lamictal has no activity at any of the 5-HT2 receptors, which makes me think that it shouldn't interfere with the psychedelic experience in any way.

It sounds to me like you just got ripped off 😉

Blessings

Thanks for the responses. :)

I'm thinking the 4-ACO-DMT may have not been the best quality, too.
If this is true, does anyone know about the most likely synth process for 4-ACO-DMT and if I need to worry about possible byproducts that are nasty in the batch mine came from?

Hopefully no heavy metals or cyanide.

Many thanks. :)
