5MeO-DMT vape pen manufacturing

Hi All,

I'm looking for some advice on how to best make a vape pen with 5MeO DMT freebase. I've done a few sessions with higher doses smoked out of a pipe, but I find that using a lower (8:1 or 6:1) concentration pen after the session can help with ongoing integration. Previously I've purchased the carts, but now I want to make my own.

Lots of questions:

PG vs VG vs PEG400 - what are the differences between these?
Will 5MeO dissolve in all of them?
Are there any other solvents that might be more suitable?
Which solvents are the safest in terms of health risks?
At what temperature does 5MeO (freebase) vaporize? Would I be at risk of vaporizing it if I use boiling water to heat the vape juice during the dissolution process?

Cartridges - I've seen different varieties for sale - is there a particular type/brand that is most suitable for this purpose? Aside from it fitting on to a 510 thread battery I have no personal preferences.

Suppliers - any recommendations? Ideally I'd like to buy all the necessary equipment (vape juice, syringes, containers, and cartridges) from the same site to avoid paying additional shipping costs. Also, I'm only in need of 5-10 carts max, so I don't want to have to purchase in bulk quantities.

This erowid article, which another user shared on here as well, seems to detail the procedure fairly well, and it seems relatively straightforward.

If you've had experience with this process, please provide any information that will be useful.

Thank you for sharing that article, that was the one I linked in my post. One more question - after the initial dissolution, I was planning on only filling one cartridge and saving the remainder of the solution in a vial. That way I can verify the potency of the concentration and dilute the stock solution more if necessary for subsequent carts. I've heard that after filling a cartridge with hot solution and screwing on the tip, a vacuum seal is created once it cools. Is that necessary for proper sealing? I would think the rubber gaskets would be sufficient. If I fill another cart with the remaining solution later, should I reheat it before filling?

Looks to me like you'd be conducting your own research with that. (5-MeO-)DMT freebase should have some solubility in it but the salt forms won't other than possibly the benzoate or the (as yet unheard of) p-toluate.

If the product is used undiluted in cannabis vape carts, the same would appear to apply for DMT. However, afaics the atomisation that occurs with PG through flash-boiling of dissolved water won't occur with that product. Water is insufficiently soluble in terpenes for that to occur.

It would be prudent to look at the data sheet for this material since it's not at all clear what these "flavorless terpenes" might be. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be something like PEG-100 instead. Another possibility is p-menthane, which is 1-isopropyl-4-methylcyclohexane, made by hydrogenation of limonene.

Edit: could it be this? Or maybe trimethyldodecane?

I called the company and they said it is adequate for dissolving THC-based materials but the solubility of other substances is not guaranteed. Their website lists the ingredients as "Proprietary Natural Plant Derived Blend" - who knows what that could be. I guess I'll have to stick to PG for now, I don't want to risk ruining my only gram of 5!

There's the option of getting some and sending a sample for analysis. You can also assess its vaping behavior without any added substances, and check for solubility with just a small sample of your DMT stash. It would be prudent to test recovering of alkaloid freebase from the mixture, along with how well it separates from water and its stability towards acids and bases.

Maybe you could try asking for a sample amount, just to check how odorless it actually is.

Here's another issue I'm trying to sort out. From what I've read, PG is fairly thin. If I use a traditional cotton wick cartridge like this as opposed to a ceramic cart, might it leak? What are the downsides to using a ceramic cart?
