I’m glad you asked that question Aegle, as this is something else I should bring up, because this is an important part of my journey.
The type of music I’m moving into is “Atmospheric Drum and Bass” which in the 90s was known by many (including myself) as “Intelligent Drum and Bass” which is not just simply dance music. Two tunes I can point to now which sum it up are LTJ Bukem’s Horizons, and Adam F’s Circles (LTJ Bukem being an influence of mine since the mid 90s).
I was in hyperspace chat the other night talking to GodsCreat0r and DMTtripn2Space, and we were talking about consciousness and collective consciousness; when DMTtripn2Space shared the following link (which I’m sure many of you may have seen before):

A particular part of this documentary explores John Blacking’s idea that music is older than language, and it maybe what makes us human, and may be one of the oldest human activities. In that music’s origins where ecstatic in nature, rather than functional. So ancient humans would play these rhythms, and start dancing, and omit vocalization (singing of course), and reach these ecstatic states (we’ve all had or have a piece or pieces of music that reaches to us on a fundamental level).
The next related part of this documentary discusses entrainment, and collective entrainment. In particular rhythmic entrainment, whereby the brain waves (particularly alpha and beta) may be acting to give each individual their own brain state. But when a rhythm is introduced, this will entrain each person’s alpha beta waves to the same resonance.
This idea of entrainment brings about the idea of a global human mind, a worldwide collective consciousness, as our next step (so all the individual human beats are not necessarily the same, but harmonic to each other). So we will all still be individual, still have our own thoughts, but we will have a tremendous oneness and togetherness between all people.
It makes me think about me and my music on a deeper level still. Atmospheric Drum and Bass music can be very relaxing in nature, but it still has a strong rhythmic drum beat and bass at its core. I now want to start looking at the music I shall be creating in the sense of conscious collectiveness, or collective entrainment. This has always been the case; however I’m starting to, and wish to explore this idea further on a deeper level. Especially aided with spice, I’d be interested to see if it shows me anything.
Sorry about the length of this post, but I felt I had to bring this up. Thank you for asking me that question Aegle, and thank you DMTtripn2Space for sharing that video.
Much peace,
Macre.
