A Psychedelic Personality Type

It's occurred to me that before ever using entheogens, I already had a "psychedelic" personality. Now that I've used entheogens, it baffles me that more people don't seek these experiences out and utterly confounds me that some people have "no interest" whatsoever. I mean, I understand that different people are drawn to different things, and certainly there are things that I don't particularly care about that some people couldn't be more interested in...but I feel that the psychedelic experience is far too important to be dismissed by anyone. You and I can like different music, but we both ought to want to live life to the fullest and be the best that we can be, no?

Anyway, what would you qualify as "psychedelic" personality type?

Individuals who do psychedelics either are depressed and are looking to do drugs and chose to try them. After their experience, they than become less depressed, find meaning and move on. Or people who do psychedelics are explorers who wish to find the truth, or knowledge, or power, or gain something from the experience. Those individuals do not bow to societies rules, and are known to rebellious, and seek answers for themselves.

It is crazy that people wouldn't be chomping at the bit to seek this experience out... But I think most of them have no idea what they are missing.

I was raised by educated liberal creative (but slightly square) parents, and had access to the full range of what our culture had to offer at the time. Hung out in the punk scene in the 1980s, and even dropped acid a few times. But I really just thought i was partying- had never heard of LSD leading to transcendental experiences. Hell, I wouldn't have known what such an experience even was! So I was one of the lucky ones, and in the course of partying, smoking weed, eating shrooms and acting stupid... Well, one day it happened. I had no expectation that such a thing was even possible, but it changed my life completely in an instant, and my more deliberate entheogenic exploration began in earnest.

So, coming from a background like mine, in a generally open minded environment, I had no idea such an experience was possible, what it can do to a person, how much it can change you... And why a person would even want to be changed in the first place. So I must assume this is pretty normal for people. If people knew this larger reality was available to them, this world would be a different place.

We have to respect peoples boundaries on things like this. I've tried to turn people on to DMT but haven't got may results. People are afraid of it!! Psychedelics have changed my life for sure. I'm more sensitive to art, nature, life, energy, and music of all kinds. Everyone doesn't have to be like that. That's why I like this website. i can find people like myself that have had the awakening and know what a powerful and life changing experiences we've been blessed with.

I agree that there is a certain type of person who would be attracted to these substances... A man of substance, you might say Most aren't ready or inclined to do such a thing, and let's face it, there is plenty to be getting on with here in consensual reality.

I fall into this latter category. Not that i haven't been through stages of depression which drugs have helped, but... From the moment I figured out I had been lied to about drugs, I realised I had a lot of ground to cover :lol: Since then I have been modifying, exploring, tweaking and experimenting with my consciousness and having a bloody great time doing it 8)

I agree with the OP. I really don't understand why people wouldn't want to have transcendental experiences of great profundity, but a lot of people don't know its possible. However if they did know whats possible and it wasn't illegal I can't help but think curiosity would get the best of most people, if it was made legal then we would see and extraordinary leap in use. I want to live life to the fullest. I want to go on any adventure that presents itself, hell I want to seek out those kinds of experiences and cram as many of them into my life as possible. Life can be an amazing experience if you choose to seek wonder and aw, thrills and adventures, people and relationships. I choose to reach far and go big, I choose to live life to the fullest and squeeze every ounce of amazement and beauty out of it. And my God man psychedelics are undoubtably part of that picture, for me anyways.......

I definitely think there is such a thing as a psychedelic personality subtype and have generally thought in a psychedelic way even before I knew of such terminology. From as early as I can remember I was always attracted to the idea of the universe and space and the sense of awe it gave me, I loved nature and the inexplicable and powerful way it made me feel and was a bit of a paranormal/UFO geek at a young age. As soon as I read about LSD when I was in my early teens, it completely fascinated me.

I've always been a head in the clouds, space cadet kinda person anyway (and thankfully have a grounded significant other to keep me in orbit) and since doing psychedelics my already psychedelic prone personality has blossomed. I always tend to look at the world with a psychedelic view point, beautiful scenery and sunsets easily move me to tears of joy, as does great music and art and I generally enjoy everyday as a wonderful creation

It saddens me to think of how many people are missing out on the amazing experiences the spirit molecule can bring, but I know most are not open to the idea based on fear. The US government has spent billions brainwashing the masses that such things are bad and instilling much fear of them and it worked for the most part. The smaller pecentage like we here at the Nexus are a very brave and adventurous lot IMO.

I think that a 'psychedelic personality' is simply a sane human being.

I too agree there is a psychedelic personality type. I too believe there is an alcoholic personality type. I'm sure that you have to have an accepting mind before committing to taking something as powerful as DMT. If you mixed some spice with your buds bowl of Mary, tricked him into smoking it, then I'm sure he won't be as accepting. If you offered him some spice straight up, then it could be a different story. Because it's on a more voluntary and aware basis. Mental preparedness is the key. "Don't expect anything" I say, come what may. If you don't have a personality that is open and unafraid then yeah you probably don't have a "psychedelic" personality.

I have a hard time believing how many people are in a coma........and not even interested in coming out of it!!

I know a couple, that used to be my "friends", that are incredibly proud, when they state,

"We have no desire to live up to our potential!"

How sad...........especially when they act so proud of that thought.

I doubt we will ever have to worry about these type of people exhausting the global MHRB pile.....

I gave someone DMT once. I didn't try to explain the effects. He had watched me smoke it for a while - and he had seen that I simply sat still, and closed my eyes.

So I passed him a full pipe, and told him to smoke as little, or as much, as he liked.

He had a few small hits. Then a few more. Then a massive one. Then he put the pipe down; closed his eyes.


He'd only ever tried MDMA once. No previous psychedelic use.

He said:
"If someone tells you 'you'll never be the same again' it's a bit fucking scary, you know?! It's only my mind, what's to be scared of? Other people man.....!"

This represents our culture today. IN the 1960's we had a mind for adventure, for improvement, the drug of the day was LSD. Today, we are timid as a culture in the U.S, we are afraid of everything, we want to be safe, we want to put our heads in the sand and pretend everything is okay, everything is fine. We no longer have the drive to explore or make things better. Today, the most common drug is prozac. So to recap 1960's drug of choice is LSD, today it's Prozac Correlation? I think there is, BIG TIME!

True. He consciously accepted what it did by what he saw. If you gave a person, without him knowing what a psychedelic is or what it does, I'm sure that person would freak out. My question is.. is that if a person that may or may not have a mind equipped enough to interpret, or handle for that matter, the effects of a psychedelic substance, will it in turn change his personality to a psychedelic personality? Will it enhance and support his already "tuned" psychedelic mind, or just give him a few more doors to choose from, for which he can base any future interaction, with a psychedelic, upon? Like, how would someone who is a "virgin" to the knowledge proposed in a trip react after ingesting it?

the best personality for psychedelics is no personality, or at least a personality which can not be easily described, a combination of all and others which dont exist, as our species evolve so does the psychonaut. To classify a personality type is ridiculous |||with anyone imo.

However I tend to think the extremely introverted would have the upper hand in
exploration of ones mind being natural born psychonauts as it is.

were a bunch of pussies looking for our own little individualistic comfort. We act as if everything is okay, it will soon be over though.

I like this description, which is why I believe most of us here take psychs. Some people do it only for fun & colors, and I've seen psychs open their minds up. Those who ''bow down to societies rules'' usually ridicule psychs or fear taking them, because they are so deep down in the matrix we can say, that they're programmed to stay away from thinking for themselves and looking beyond their identity which is what psychs do.
