Botany Acacia and Mimosa Identification Thread

Growing logs with advice and results.
Migrated topic.
kiang, it looks like you have a variety of a. melanoxyn .. its the same as a variety I see growing around the yarra/dandenong ranges down in victoria.. the conjunction of both juvenile and mature phyllodes are good indicator of a melanoxyn. phyllode shape and size vary greatly with this species and can go from being quite narrow pointed 'longifolia-like' to more oval/balloon shaped. always complex nerve anastomy with melanoxyns definitely recommend checking the phyllodes out with a magnifying glass for a visual treat. I think melanoxyn is equally as deserving of the "variable sally wattle" name as its juliflorae counterpart acacia mucronata (which is variable sallow wattle)

Yeah I realised that after posting the pictures directly from my phone. I'm pretty much new to the whole DMT thing as you could probably tell.

Is there any specific parts of the plant I should take close-ups pics of? Apart from the phyllodes etc.
Also is a general guideline for deducing Acacia trees, those small yellow bristley like flowers?

No worries, yeah close up of phyllodes, where the phyllode meets the stem/branch, the trunk and ideally seedpods, flowers too if possible yes.

So I went for a hike today and found what seemed like many potentials Acacias trees. However since most of them are not in the flowering stage, as a beginner it becomes quite difficult for me to distinguish whether they are infact acacias or eucalyptus trees, both having phyllodes and especially leaves that are similar.
Out of all these trees I took pictures of, one really stood out being different.

Possibly the last photo in the post before this one is an acacia and the first 3 photos of the last post.. Still closer up of vein structure needed. You should check out worldwide wattle for how the flowers develop and for getting an idea of the acacia 'look'.

Okay that's good because thats exactly what I thought as well. Thanks for the advice, the one in the photo was actually quite small probably 2-2.5m tall with a small trunk as you could see.

I'm thinking of sourcing the AC and MH seeds online and planting them in my backyard for self sustainability. Would this be a good option?

I'm in the nsw region so I don't know if thats as tropical as places like QLD. The only reason that's worth cultivating MH, AC is for their rich alkaloid content. I've read Acuminata is decent but Maidenii and floribunda seem to be reported to have a much less alk. profile and is even variable.

just checked out the thread and i'm guessing I might go with acuminata and the maidenii x obtusfolia. They're both very nice looking trees too.

Went for a few more walks around this week and my dog happened to find a few trees that he liked peeing on so swim decided to take some photos

Can i go ahead and assume that north American does not support a climate to properly grow similar plants capable of producing anything. That a green house would be necessary. It'd be nice if I was wrong

Heres a few more acacia potentials

Hello everyone ive been off the grid for a while. Just want to say i love you all and the beautiful work u all do! My bird finally got successful strain to work and then i took a long break.. Its pretty insane really ( im more than happy to move next section to extract forum just in bit of rush) i waa so discouraged after my final extraction that bird threw all my jars away. Before doing this bird ran something quickly through my jars cant even remember now (wouldve been metho/ipa/shellite) and poured this quickly into jar before too much oil dissolved. As well bird left one small jar of concentrated free base water solution that had been double a/b through xylene and i had no more solvent so left in cupboard. Bout 3 months later i recieved bottle cap (1st pic) and another calling which i hadnt heard in some time. Checked jars so crazy... Combined wash had turned into orange oil which refuses to x.. Hydrous freebase had evapoed into big white chunky crystals and bunch lil small ones. I couldnt even figure out where these cane from for longest time then racked my brain and remembered this guy (Acacia pic 2) popping out and saying hello. Anyway oil had most magnificent like old school stuff i had back in the day.. (Not from land of wattle originally) I want to mention as well bird used only twigs and phyllodes to obtain this ultra potent treasure. and after doin quick re-x/wash of white chunks ended up with some eeally nice clusters of x-tals i thought only existed in fairytales and pics on nexus. 😉 bioessay oil put me to sleep standing up very deep feeling cev beautiful taste, xtals gave me full frequency awareness as well as very disembodied feeling ( had very little in end)
Since ive been sdoing a lot, and i mean a lot, of work on id-ing and pheeeeew the more i learn the less i know. Just when i thought i had my ids down i read the entire collaborative and id forums and realised there are several sub species and hybrids to consider. How deep does this rabbit hole really go? I think maybe we should start including bark and tree structure in identifying as in my opinion phyllode, flowers, and seed pods. Also thinking im gonna go back to using instinct and intuition as my 6th sense as everything in my area seems so variable. Also want to mention looking back over all the work birds done.. Almost positively birds done extracts on tryptamine containing plant with out obtaining viable product. I can prove this with freak accident of pic#2 which bird had done several pulls of shelly no success. DONT WASTE UR TIME WITH DIGGERS ! Also seems fat and oil content much higher than depicted so de-fat de-fat de-fat and if u getting oil keep pulling i think these plant substances are just natures little obstacles. Ive got lots mpre to mention will leave that for extraction forum
Anyway heres some pics help with ids be awesome. Thanks brothers and sisters
Pic#2 +3 positive alk result.. Will follow up in near future with proper xtract and better pics. Curious on thoughts of species though? Im almost 100% positive this is obtus- of some sort.. Only other thing i can think of is longissoma or something. Havent seen flowering but had right seed pods
Pic#4 a few really big specimens which looking back i think were same as previous tree
Pic#5 +6 what i would consider visual evidence of hybridization of multiple species in one area
Pic#7+8+9 im most curious about speculation of id there is a huge story of irony involved in this tree which will follow depending on the id results u guys suggest. p.S dont think melanoxylon as i have seen flowering pale yellow rods.. Tall 15m tree with single stem fissured bark couldnt find seed pods and phyllodes so variable i have a hard time trying generalize between 2-5 main vains with sparsely to generously anastomosing secondary veins sickled to- elliptical pointed tips to obtuse
If there is any potential in last specimen illl follow up with some better pics and an even better story
