Botany Acacia and Mimosa Identification Thread

A friend told me their was A. Maidenaii growing all over a certain street, which I went to check out. I do not think these are A. Maidenaii.
The question is: what are they?

Wow thats an exotic looking plant it has a majical aura.

I think you have Callistemon Salignus, DonPeyote ... gorgeous plant - and yes very acacia-like .... could be mistaken for Melaleuca Saligna, though is distinguishable by the 3 prominent veins as opposed to the single main vein on Melaleuca

Yes, yes, the leaves smell very much like Malaleuca!

And the way the almost white trunk bark has that soft, and fluffy feel...

Definitely not an Acacia.

Hey guys, this will be my first post on this site, someone from the shroomery just sent me a link because they thought my question would be better answered here. So basically, I know that Acacia maidenii grow in my area so I was out hunting for them and came across a very convincing cluster of trees. (Having said that I am very new to acacia identification) I was hoping I could upload some photos and someone could confirm that they either were or weren't maidenii...

posting the same thing multiple times in multiple subfora is discouraged here on the nexus.

i know sometimes it can feel like it takes some time to get a decent response, but patience is considered a virtue round these here parts.


also, it looks similar to maidenii, but those flowers do seem too yellow to be it. but i am far from an expert, so this is hardly more than an educated guess. acacian or nen888 would know.

maybe some nice mod will move this post into the acacia identification thread for you

looks like you have acacia longifolia DreaMsofTruth... though the phyllodes seem bit rounded at the ends..perhaps acacia longiolia subs. sophorae - are you near the beach?

Around my place of residence, there have recently been a lot of these beautiful acacia trees blooming and popping these brilliantly yellow round flowers.

Does anyone know what type of acacia species this is?



I have also taken a few photos of what looks similar to Phalaris Arundinacea and Phalaris Brachystachys, does anyone know what these actually are?

looks like acacia retinodes but its really hard to tell from that photo.. also that grass is not phalaris

could be arund, take a picture of the ligule membrane, if possible.

Looks like retinodes has started to flower in Victoria now, to me retinodes has a slightly creepy yet seductive vibe.. Its flowers are lovely.
