Ok so turns out its no problem for me to go out and get a bucket full of acacia confusa "koa" lower bark cause they grow all over around here. But a lot of it grows with moss on it at the lower parts, so would it be safe to assume to wash/scrub the bark before drying, or should i just grab bark from higher up?

But the main question is what tek works best for koa? its seems to be that there is no clear acacia confusa tek and its still a lot of experimenting as far as ive found. Has any one have had much luck?

keep in mind that confusa does not survive well when rootbark is stripped, and I doubt lower trunk bark stripping will help the tree survive well either..definatly do not ringbark the trees.. If you really have access to these trees in the wild I would try for branch bark..branch bark is still said to have lots of alkaloids at more than .5% I think and you wont be harming the trees so they will still be there next year, with new branches to harvest.

and yeah I never worked with it but I think you can go about it similar to mimosa.

right on thank you guys! As far as the bark I have deffinetly not been ringing bark, or even tuching the root bark. just been pulling a few pieces off of each one around the base of the trunk, next time I go out and harvest i will focus on branch bark and see how that goes. I have hundereds of them growing all around my house every thing from baby starters less that a foot all they way up to 50 footers. but by no means do i want to kill a single one even though they are kinda invasive in hawaii.
