Acetone wash help

I'm sure many of you have seen this question before, but after many hours of searching and trying to figure it out, my guinea pigs were unable to conclude.

My guinea pigs decided to try the acetone method in order to freebase the alkies.
What they didn't understand is do they have to put micro amounts of acetone through the MHRB powder to defat the plant, then allowed to sit out in order to completely evaporate acetone out of it. Repeat 3x, this part of the method being called the acetone wash. That is what I don't understand. The rest of steps follow and are all easily understood by them.

The next step was to put 4 parts MHRB and 1 parts sodium carbonate together, then add just enough water in order to produce a paste. Allow to dry.

Then put more acetone on dried resulting powder 3x and evaporate combined acetone extracts to fully retrieve smokeable freebase dmt.

Another question arises now, how much acetone does one need in order to do extracts after sodium carbonate and MHRB drying? I am using 100grams powdered MHRB btw
