All Things CHANGA: An Essential Guide

Hey Voidmatrix, I want to work on a new 1:1 (herb:spice) changa blend that would include for herbs 10x caapi leaves and ideally 10x chaliponga leaves, and I wanted to ask if you used enhanced chaliponga leaves or just the raw material in your blends?
Also, by doing so, would adding 300mg harmalas and 1g spice make the blend too strong? I'm asking because I'm not familiar with chaliponga potency and how it affects the experience in this ROA.
I apologize, I am not sure how I missed this question, as it doesn't appear that I ever answered.

I have used both enhanced leaves and plain leaves with both chaliponga and caapi. Enhanced is the way to go in my opinion.

Chaliponga doesn't seem too active on it's own. And if the blend is too strong, you can always take lighter hits. Start low and slow.

I've just smoked a little Mullein & Blue lotus separately, the Mullein reminds me of Tobacco-free cigarettes from back in the 90's, I found the Blue Lotus smoother.
Also tried a little Hibiscus in the pipe too, though that was maybe slightly acrid.
One thing I notice about the Mullein I bought is that there is the occasional strand of plastic in it which is a bit crap when its a food product meant for Tea, I may have to find a whole leaf supply if I enjoy the Changa and chop up myself.

Yeah, microplastics are so ubiquitous these days it's worth double-checking any purchased loose herbs you might be using - and maybe even stuff from ones own garden depending on the circumstances. Baler twine changa might not be all that great (n)

Just wondering, albeit Changa making is pretty small scale so probably not worth the extra effort.

Could Changa be made like I see people making RSO with an electric Water Distiller to remove / recover the alcohol?

It would seem like Vacuum distilation would be the better option but that doesn't seem particularly easy as a 'Garage or Kitchen Cook' who only has a few flasks and beakers.

Thank you for the write up!

I just have one question: I'm not entirely sure I understand the alcohol step -- the suggestion is to "pour in ¾ to ⅘ of your desired solvent" -- what exactly is 3/4 or 4/5 here? Are we talking about filling up the jar 3/4 of the way? That would feel like an overkill, I imagine we probably just want to make sure that our mixture is submerged in alcohol, right?

Harmalas not only need more alcohol to fully dissolve, but over saturating with alcohol also lends itself to more even distribution of alkaloids throughout the entirety of the plant matter.

Thank you for responding! Would you be able to elaborate a little more on the exact specifications here, though? Are we talking about filling in the jar 3/4 of the way full? I was going to use a standard glass spice jar and I was planning to use your "favourite anytime blend" but I was going to halve all values, leaving me with 500 mg DMT, 150 mg harmala, 250 mg mullein, 125 mg blue lotus, 125 mg passionflower. Now I just need to work out how much IPA I will need to use here. I understand that I will need to fill the glass spice jar 3/4 of the way, is that correct? Sorry for being a bit slow

No need to apologize.

I use one of those standard short canning Mason jars. That's what I was considering when writing this. It's also something that doesn't have to be exact and fortunately there's not really an issue with too much alcohol. It just means it takes longer to evaporate, which will actually help make a better infusion. So, even when halving all the values, you can still fill the jar with the same amount of IPA. I use the same amount of alcohol no matter the ratio of a given blend.

hey @reun This may help for a visual of what I've just made My Changa Experiments the jar i use is a standard size herb or spice jar that you'd get from a supermarket full of oregano, chilli powder, mint or rosemary etc etc.

If your herbs, harmalas and DMT is about 10mm deep fill it up so you have 20-30mm of alcohol depth with your mix covered, give it a swirl a few times a day with the lid on (running a little warm water from the tap over the bottom of the sealed jar can help the harmalas dissolve quicker), after a few days or a week take the lid off and let it evaporate, you can help speed it up placing it by a fan, give it a stir a couple of times a day, when most of the alcohol has gone I put my open jar in a warm place for a couple of days and occasionally stir it, after that i tip/scrape the jar out and allow it a couple more days on a piece of baking parchment to be totally certain its fully dry.

Hope that helps, the "pour in ¾ to ⅘ of your desired solvent" did confused me initially but I just winged it and everything turned out good. So it's a pretty forgiving process (y)
