Am I Having Flashbacks?

Is déjà vu a possible symptom of epilepsy? I had a weird experience last night where seemingly random things were reminding me viscerally of things I knew intellectually I'd never seen before. The sight of the audience triggered an episode, a big part of which was a feeling of familiarity, but the associated memory was just a weird space full of purple and green shapes, not like anything is ever seen or thought before.
 
Man, please take a break from the festival. Tell the people involved, they will understand; we're talking about your health here. I am sorry for repeating this, but it's important. I will not prod you again, I promise this is the last time, please go to a doctor or a hospital, and tell them that you spoke informally with a doctor and he told you that it might be complex partial seizures and that you should visit a doctor. They might know what to look for this way, and rule out a lot of possibilities.

Yes, especially if the origin is the temporal lobe which incidentally is the most common site from where complex partial seizures arise.

ND- get yourself checked out, if only for the reassurance that nothing is wrong.Mention your symptoms as you have done in this thread and a half decent quack should consider complex partial seizures of temporal lobe origin as a (possible) diagnosis.
 
I had the same experience, also when I was 19 years of age. For me, speaking was entirely impossible while it was going on. it happened multiple times over the course of a few months.

I came out just fine :) and dandy even :) :)

I'm 35 now. No epilepsy.

Research these terms: kundalini crises and kundalini syndrome. I am not offering up a diagnosis, nor have i diagnosed myself to either of these terms per se'. I'm still trying to figure it all out.

No meds have been nessesary, in my case. Keep calm, you are not going insane. these symtoms will indeed pass. Possibly other, episodes may develop during the course of your life, likely with different symptoms. A prediction on my part, a guess. YMMV



For my own edification, could you please answer the following. Have you ever experienced:


1.Archetypical dreams as a child? Dreams in-which you encounter mythic beasts/gods as a child? A dream life, as a child, which could be considered "active/possibly more active than others children?

2.OBE/sleep paralysis?

3.Did you ever come down with a major illness as a child, or one that baffled doctors?

4.Was there a buzzing noise present during any of your "phased out" or "dissociated", so-called "flashback" experiences?
 
Well, I just got back from my doctors. The festival is over and we got pretty good reviews.

She thinks that it could either be temporal lobe epilepsy or some variety of schizophrenia, but assured me that, in either case, it appears to be pretty mild, at least for the moment. She gave me a prescription for a low dose Trileptal to see if that helps out at all.

Unfortunately, this means that I probably won't be able to go SCUBA diving over vacation, since having any kind of seizure under 75 ft of water probably isn't a good idea.

At least it has been narrowed down. It is good that you are taking care of it. With proper medication, diet, and stress control you may never have another episode again. Keep those stress levels down my friend!

Since you're "still figuring this all out", I suppose it's not totally absurd of you to make this jump... but the OP is definitely not dealing with anything that could be called "kundalini"-related. Or at least if he is, the onset is very, very unusual and the process should be dealt with in a much more controlled fashion (IE: supervised medical assistance) than google searching for "kundalini awakening" and trying to "figure things out".

Just because something obviously involves the brain functioning outside its "normal" parameters, does not mean it's related to the process of the workings becoming aware of themselves... even if there may be similar symptoms.
For instance: There are plenty of dangerously unstable schizos who evade diagnosis or treatment because they identify their symptoms with a spiritual paradigm, as well as plenty of folks unwittingly in the midst of these far-out processes who mistakenly think themselves schizophrenic (which is a good way to end up genuinely delusional anyway).

It's pretty important not to confuse the two, as in either case you're dealing with some pretty serious medical and psychological issues that have really serious consequences to the person in the middle. Likewise, many paradigms surrounding western understanding of "kundalini awakening" are... well, idiotic and insane. Sometimes sending someone looking in that direction (even if they are in fact exposed to this rare phenomenon) is no more beneficial than shoving them off a cliff.
There are very good reasons that you'll only find ignorant seekers (regardless of how highly they tout their limited experience) and who are confused and just starting into it saying "Check out Kundalini this or that!", or "That sounds like "XYZ" symptom of awakening!"

Spiritual crises....is sometimes diagnosed as an illness. With potentially dire results. Doctors can sometimes be too quick to medicate. This is stuff that I personally have seen, but there is plenty of literature out there. I never advised Nathan to avoid medical treatment--the fact that he did seek out doctors and reported to us what happened is quite interesting to me. They put him on an anti-epilepsy med.

Oh BTW, I have seen a lot of medical advice from doctors, a lot of diagnosis and prescriptions and often they pan-out to be, well, idiotic and insane.

Your response to my post makes it sound like i advised this guy to stay away from doctors and just google kundalini. Not what I did, sir. rather, i offered him a starting point for a different branch of research other than the avenues he was already looking into, and then asked him some questions, which he chose to ignore. Some people just prefer to only look into one narrow path of inquiry when researching a problem. That's cool, I just thought i'd offer. Am I to keep silent when someone presents the same symptoms that I myself have had, and not speak from my experience?

Whatever. I'm just glad the doctors are right on top of it, this whole consciousness thing. *whew* that's a relief.

Maybe i've had epilepsy and schizophrenia, all these years.....:) To be honest, i am not perfectly sane, rational nor 100 percent logical. No humans are.

I had a lot of deja vu type experiences back when I was 19 also. I took it as a symptom of....something else.
 
Let's keep this thread relevant to Nathanial getting better folks.

hiyo, the thread's last posts were great, we reached a positive outcome, and Nat visited the doctor. No need to get back and scrutinise comments, the thread reached its goal.

And please refrain from insulting any individual because of what they suggested. You can kindly point out your opinion without becoming too disrespectful of their approaches.

Any moderator seeing this, I kindly request locking the thread, as there is nothing more to be said on the matter. Nat's on a positive course, and his question has been answered (not only by subjective opinions, not only by our own doctor, but also with a proper visit to one).
