Awesome! Thanks for the confirmation! I'm so glad I found some. I was pretty sure they were right, but was a little wary as the base was not very shaggy. I assume they get shaggier with age.
It's funny, I only found them in abundance before I knew anything about them. Of course they are eye-grabbing, especially the crimson ones, so I remember seeing them. Then, when I wanted some I couldn't find any! I drove all the way to Hammond Oregon, where I had seen patches of 30 or better, and there was nothing. I basically gave up for the year, and right then, there they were growing in short grass right next to where I park every day.
Have they been screwing with me? It's enough to make one wonder.... The note pad from my last trip has a passage "Why is the thing I'm looking for always the hardest to find?" And I guess these shrooms were no different.
I just hope they'll still be there, and mature come Monday morning. There was a couple dozen there just waiting.
