An apparent working catha edulis (khat) extraction

i heard this from a person in real life and havent tried it.
i eat khat on a regular enough basis that iv pondered this very thing many times - then randomly someone i know told me a story
this is what i heard someone did

khat branches were harvested as usual and placed in a bottle of alcahol
after a month or 2 - they were coated in white powder(as any khat eater has seen on the branches before - specially when its dark purple)
the bottle was shaken and the powder fell to the bottom
the khat was pulled out the alcahol
the white xtals were shaken back in to the liquor and taken in shots
ppl were awake for days


khat has cathinone, cathine and cathinine - these vary in ratio in various plants thus giving them unique effects
a day after picking the khat is of no use - but with this proceedure perhaps it is not exposed to oxygen
perhaps something is not oxidizing ?

Lol khat seems like fun, in my country there is alot of people from somalia and we always see them chewing that stuff lol.

I can´t understand how they get it seems you need alot and most of them chew it all the time

I met a Somalian guy the other day who had a massive bag of the stuff. He was telling me how people love it in the US.

I did a bit of a crude extraction on a large quantity of fresh leaf. I tore it up and then steeped it in a bucket of ethanol (yes it cost me a lot) for a week (stirring often) and then strained and evapped the results. What remained was a crude green oily, waxy residue, this was capped (roughly 100mg's per cap) and 2 were ingested immediately. I was indeed awake for over 30hrs with just 2 capsules. And there was some nice euphoria. The thing that got me with this was that there were stages of lethargy, where I was stimulated yet tired. the CEV's during this stage were quite interesting. very vivid images of African faces, strange buildings I've never seen before that kind of thing. I found this rather interesting and very similar to some CEV's I've experienced from a crude poppy tar I extracted.

They seem almost like waking dreams. I can follow a very vague storyline, but often these fade the minute exterior stimuli are experienced. I am really keen to do some more experimenting with Khat and might give this a try. I was not aware the rest of the plant had goodies.

Really? Is it around in the US? I've never heard of it being around. I'd like to try it one day.

I was as surprised as you are. He was telling me that there isn't much of demand for it here in the UK, but people go crazy for it in the US. I lived in the states for 11 years and never heard of it. I was a bit younger then, but still. Maybe it's more popular with Somalians. I dunno really...

As far as i know it´s mostly people from somalia that use it.

It´s really weird how they can get it here in the amounts needed since it needs to be fresh and the doses are preety big.

It´s illegal here so it can´t be much of a profit either if you think amount the riscs involved in smuggling.

Ive heard it´s a stimulant with sedating properties, don´t know much about it though.

My wife and I got a couple of bunches of khat a few years back. We missioned to this really dodgy looking bar in a not so friendly part of south london, walked up to this dude at the counter and asked for some khat. He politely handed us some and we were on our way. I must mention that I got a really weird vibe from this place, 20 or so dudes chomping away on this stuff playing some sort of board game. They all looked at us like "wtf are they doing here"

Anyway, on our way home we decided to chomp some of this stuff, so we chewed on a few of these twig kinda things, for probably 20-30min or so, at first I didnt feel anything, but after a while I felt quit stimulated.
The taste for me was the worst, like really bitter, not the kind of taste I like in my mouth for too long.

phlux, I knew of a few guys in jhb area that were apparently extracting it a few years back, never asked for any details though.
