Anger

Migrated topic.
Also, we should recognize that there is an evolutionary benefit to "negative" emotions. Anger and fear are necessary for fight-or-flight response (acting quickly when it is necessary for survival), and without sadness/regret how do we learn from our mistakes?

For example, take the man who grabbed the ember to throw it at someone else: After he burns his hand, should he be happy or sad about his past decisions? Which of those emotions will keep him from making the same mistake again?

I agree.

Even when anger arise, it is welcomed with happiness, joy and playfulness.

So after all this to and froing you are saying that you do get angry and, not only that, but it is ok to get angry. You have been trolling me and now i have to say that i have been made quite angry by this wasted circular discussion (but i will not hold onto my anger any longer than necessary).

No I don't get angry. I don't exist. "I" am not there.
Be it.

No, I don't get angry

Wow, it must be nice to never have been angry before. I thought this thread was intended to help Null through his anger...?

If you were happy all of the time you would lose the concept of what happiness actually was.

It seems Aeternus isn't the only one making claims.😉 Just messin with ya Hug! But seriously, are you sure about this? Does happiness need to be conceptualized to be felt?

Without suffering, "happiness" is meaningless.

What about babies and children experiencing happiness? Do they have to suffer in order to know happiness?

How about animals/pets?

Not asking for answers, just some things to consider.

I dont think that happiness does need to be conceptualised in order to be felt but it does in order to be discussed as, due to our varied personalitys, we may have different ideas as to what happiness actually entails. Having said that,i am going to do something that goes against my obstinate and argumentative nature and say that my use of the word concept in this particular context may have been wrong.

I give up, get angry if it makes you happy.
This talks only creates ego vibrations and anger can only make it stronger.
Love you all, Peace for all, Happiness transcend us all.
Aeternus dissolves in happiness.

Good point. I think that when something seems new, it can make one happy, but even babies get bored of their surroundings eventually. Happiness is not a self-sustaining state. It can be sustained if we push ourselves to explore but, like climbing a mountain or running a marathon, there is a cost to this exploration of personal limits. I think the purpose of happiness is to help guide our actions, and thus I think happiness always has to be earned through some sort of experience. Suffering is just a natural part of navigating the unknown world, and I think that a being that refuses to to explore can experience neither suffering nor happiness (by my definition of happiness as an emotional reward for beneficial actions).

I can write a computer program that simply says "I'm happy" continuously. Is that real happiness? A rock never experiences suffering. Is that real happiness? I think there are states of non-being, as Aeternus describes, but I've found that being is necessary for human experiences such as happiness and suffering. What Aeternus describes is what I would call "peace". I think peace is a great fallback in life, but it doesn't really get us anywhere technologically.

Another idea: helping junkies in your case, Null24, is self-pity imo. Better stay away from those ppl, you'll catch their illness (a massive ego) and if your resistance is low, they drag you down. Also you can't really help them, all these ppl need is facing ultimate destruction. They either jump into the abyss or they leave that destructive path. It's their choice.

"We are caged by our anger programming. Anger is a mass hallucination, and when you step outside the mass hallucination, you see it for what it is worth"

Culture to anger words transformed -Terence Mckenna-

It's completely natural to be angry. At least in terms of emotions and as a release when necessary, y'know? Being angry was not meant to be left out. Anger brings on a storm, sometimes. It'll pass in time. Remain steady. I do recall reading an article displaying some evidence supporting some benefits to being angry temporarily, but certainly not often or chronically..

I have found that long durations of happiness without suffering cause me to become desensitized to my own happiness. It is when I experience a short spurt of stress or unhappiness I realize how happy I truly was and cherish it even more. Then this cycle repeats itself.

Although imo anger is something that doesn't necessarily fit into this equation. You don't need it unless your in a life or death situation and you need that super human strength to survive.

There was a study (that I now cannot find) that found when you are depressed it caused certain receptor sites to become more sensitive to certain neurotransmitters that elevate your mood (like serotonin) and it also worked vice versa. So it seems, according to this study, that we are forever to ride the emotion Rollercoaster. :p

I've come back to this thread as its only recently Ive realised that anger is bubbling underneath my surface and is a source of my recent depression and anxiety, due to my circumstances that I wont bore you with but today I snapped. Ive felt like I have been wronged and my strong sense of injustice drove my ego. Not in a violent or aggressive manner but I let it control me and I have spent the afternoon coming down and reflecting on it.
I have vowed from now on I will attempt to not let anything disturb my peace again I am the master of me and I can choose how to react. Like Cognitive heart said it is natural and noone is perfect but we can but try. Anger can easily turn inwards transforming into depression so if we can learn not to react in the first place we can avoid it turning inwards and in turn causing more self-destructive habits.

So very true for me too.
