any suggestions or experience sharing on Using Hexane?

I've been searching on the forum and didn't found much on using pure hexane or heptane on extractions. Is there any seasoned traveler that could share some experience on using pure hexane or heptane as solvent? I've realized that one of the biggest problems is to reach some decent solvent.

I guess im priviledged that 2 blocks from my house ( which is a hostel that I run, In case that any of you guys want to come to mexico you are more than welcome, you can find my GF in couchsurfing as morgana lefay and we would be happy to host any of you) there is a lab supplier that can get you technicall grade hexane for 20 dollars a gallon, or analitical reactive hexane for 90 dollars a gallon. thats the minimun they can order. heptante is exactly the same price.

I've never worked with hexane/heptane, afaik, it's essentially like naphtha as far as its application in teks, but its a more selective solvent which is why it's often used as a re-x solvent. It may not be the most efficient or capable for exhausting your bark of DMT. I'd suggest using it in conjunction with an A/B tek in order to minimize the particulates and clathrate (or chelating) pockets that the hexane would have to fight against to get your goodies out.

Another option, if you can get a less selective solvent like xylene or toluene would be to use those solvents to extract a large quantity of "jungle spice" (which is almost entirely DMT according to some analysis) and then clean it up with your hexane, you would probably be able to get a large yield of "clean" product.

I can get good quality toluene/xylene. I'm going to basify some new mimosa and try the toluene ex. I just have one more question here, would you say spice got from toluene ex is decent for smoking or you strongly suggest to do the hexane cleaning? if this is so, is there a tek for it?

Hexane works just fine for extracting, with about 5 or 6 thorough pulls you can get 1+% from good bark, and if you freeze precipitate you'll get white and yellow crystalss (which can be recrystallized if you want but should be fine to vaporize as is, if you dried them well).. Its good for first extractions I would say, and yeah as snozz said its pretty similar to naphtha (naphtha is usually a mix with the likes of pentane, hexane, heptane).

Toluene and xylene will pull DMT easier, as well as some plant oils and inactive impurities, and also small amounts of other alkaloids (NMT and 2-MTHBC) which might or might not affect the trip considering they are in so small amounts (around 3%).

The thing with toluene and xylene is that they smell really nasty, toxic, xylene specially (toluene is "sweeter" but yuck imo like "sweet" cancer :p ). Work in well ventilated area.

Considering you do an evap test and these solvents you are using evap clean, yeah its safe to smoke the product from their extraction, but I recommend redissolving the product in non-denatured ethanol/acetone and re-evaporating to remove traces of those solvents trapped in the goo/crystals (do the same for naphtha/hexane stuff imo)

Eventually you might want to check out into salting instead of evaporating the xylene/toluene (or limonene! ). It adds a couple of steps to extraction but you can reuse solvents and get a good yield (and working with limonene is so much nicer than with petrochems imo). Whatever way you extract, I would say that another just-as-essential factor to take in account is smoking method. Or rather, vaporization method, ideally... Look into the GVG if you have a bit to spend, its IMO (and of many here) the ultimate DMT vaporization method. Otherwise the normal VG. Some people have had success with The Key or similar improvised vaporizers, but I havent tried. The Machine was too harsh for me, and so were any normal pipes. Before, I had mild success with bong and dmt sandwhiched between thick layer of ashes, and going very easy on the lighter. But if you can get the GVG (and a good torch lighter), you wont regret!

valuable info you give me. Yes i had heard that the evap method was very important, i'll check on GVG. Im very grateful for the support you have given to me since I sing up for the forum, and thanks to snozzle as well.
