Anyone else ever consider that extracting DMT is going to cause DMT plants to be made illegal?

The government is going to try to make mimosa, psychotria, and other plants illegal one day. Every time someone extracts DMT from them it encourages the government to make them illegal, because people are using them to make drugs.

I think the best solution to this is to grow your own plants, and to make ayahuasca, or mimosahuasca. It really bugs me how few people on the nexus grow their own plants.

You guys should all look into buying a rooted psychotria leaf. I've seen them as cheap as 7 dollars with shipping.
These will effectively grow into a full plant that will grow very fast.
You should also get a caapi cutting. It wouldn't be too much, and would provide you with everything needed for making ayahuasca. It'd also be very hard to get caught unless someone saw you making it.

They're not actually so easy to come buy. If you learn to identify P. Viridis by the shape of it's leaf and then look at most the the leaves folk are selling you'll realise it's not actually P. Viridis.

Getting a decent strain is even harder.

There are better plants depending on the climate that are much easier to come across.

But all that aside 'coatl would be proud :)

I'm pretty sure I could find you guys a legit strain of either, if anyone needs a source.
And coatl's my idol. xD

There's a fine line between growing and manufacturing, and an even finer line between brewing and extracting. The government has no interest in distinguishing between the two, and considering that they will reward us for "behaving ourselves" by not extracting or not ingesting these plants or their components is wishful thinking at best. New Mexico is the only state I'm aware of that even discerns the cultivation of psilocybes and manufacturing of a schedule I substance.

The art of refining a pure substance from a plant has its own life. We can't halt progress, no matter how fearful we become of its ill-sanctioned consequences, but we can fight to defend it. Clandestine status has never been entirely tolerable, the community must make a stand somewhere.

If everyone grew their own plants it would atleast help prevent the government from trying to illegalize it.

and is it really worth it to extract DMT, when it may cause DMT containing plants to be made illegal? It won't be "progress" when no one can experience any form of DMT because all sources of it are illegal.

and how is extracting DMT "progress"? More can be learned from ayahuasca, it just isn't as convenient.

I agree we should act to defend DMT and its plants, but if we want to preserve the legality of DMT containing plants we should all grow them, and make ayahuasca.

and if all DMT containing plants were made illegal, how would you continue to experience it? If you have your own plant you could simply use the plants.

here's some recent related posts from coatl. I agree, people must grow some plants. it's part of this hobby.

People living in the city can't grow plants. I always get angry if someone tells me that it's my duty to grow the plants in question.

you've got to be kidding

if you respect the molecule that much, you'd know there are numerous sources of it in invasive grasses. those grasses can never be illegalized because they grow like weeds along riverbanks.

although very new to spice , i am also afraid of these plants getting banned , the only way to fight this fear ... as i've decided is to get these plants and grow them so even if the goverment continues its lunacy i can go on with my spirituality

Note that I in no way contested that point from your post.

The law or its consequences do not define the parameters of progress. My point was that this was an inevitable outcome, regardless of the methods of administration.

A little time researching the forums uncovers a good deal of progress in and of the practice of extraction, such as nontoxic methods extraction or separating a plant into its components or analysis and bioassay of those components.

Sorry, though I feel the community should grow its own plants, the kinds and quantities are greatly limited for most, and neither growing nor forgoing extraction are going to sufficiently halter the tides of prohibition. Let alone that they aren't realistic expectations for the community at large.

Also please let's not forget the Illionois Bundleflower being used in restoration projects (funded by the USDA) all over the midwest. Cold hardy and .3-.5% clean profile DMT in it's rootbark. Quick and easy to grow.

I'm pretty sure where there is a will there is a way.

The problem is not extractors, it is extractors that sell their product. When $ changes hands, Uncle Sam becomes very interested in their cut, be it from taxes or "drug" seizures.

First it's criminalize, they're not trying to "illegalize" anything, they're trying to make our actions criminal. Second regardless of what we grow, the rules will be the same. Our own propagation of these plants will NOT sway governmental decision makers, it WILL allow our community to live on and continue these experiences. If the BBB debacle has taught us anything it should be that the intent to consume the plants is all that's needed for them to be considered controlled substances, so your talk of ayahuasca keeping us safe from prosecution is wrong and will mislead people reading your post. Your above statements really have very little to do with actually affecting or protecting us from the legal climate, but you seem to be well-intentioned.

Extracting DMT IS progress, as science and human understanding had to reach a point where extraction was doable. Your feelings as to what can be learned from dmt vs ayahuasca are subjective. I've had tremendously valuable learning experiences from DMT, Ayahuasca, and pharmahuasca, your claim that one is "better" or "more" of anything is purely your own experience/emotions.

As to your last line up there, that's exactly what will happen if/when the govt really truly cracks down on everything and is only marginally different than how things are now as we're currently all operating in a gray area when we obtain these plants for our various uses.

peace

Coatl's 2c on this, since Coatl's being talked about....

The struggle of entheogens began in the 1960s....

I think at this stage in the fight for our recognition of legitimacy that it is actually hurting us more than it is helping us to extract these compounds unless you are part of a university or medical research.

I strongly discourage people to stop extracting DMT (or any other compound such as mescaline), I think what would truly help would be for people to go out there and get degrees and try to do legitimate research instead of illegal research.

I believe the Ethnogen struggle started when the Conquistidors came from Spain and tortured the natives for their use of peyote.

However, the modern day struggle for all psycadelics started with the Antiestablishment Hippie Movement. Their entire exsistance, includeing the use of psycadelics was frowned upon by "mainstream" America.

sorry to keep chiming in, I just couldn't resist commenting on 'coatl's comment. Illegitimate research is not the other side of illegal research. We have a legal climate that has made legitimate research illegal. This is a problem that must be addressed. Illegitimate research should be illegal or at least frowned upon, but I can do all kinds of legitimate research that falls into the category of illegal, simply because a supposedly "democratic" government has decided to revoke certain civil liberties upon which it was founded and attempts to regulate what I put into my body. That is, to my mind, the most illegitimate action that has been taken relating to entheogens.

The drugwar of that era was largely intended to undermine the anti-war, civil-rights, and various youth movements and had little to do with the drugs themselves until the propaganda had thoroughly taken hold. The drugwar prior to this time (still ongoing, however) had largely focused on undermining ethnic minorities and foreign economies, often utilizing religious overtones. The drugwar since the seventies, however, has largely focused on money but utilizes a paternal visage to justify its perpetuation.

NO.

it is impossible for all sources of dmt to be made illegal.

please don't feed the hate machine with fear. fear will get us nowhere.

growing plants is a great idea. gardening is fun.
not sure if i could get bainisteriopsis to root at 43deg lat!
