BLAB Step 6 - Fridge necessary or not?

Right, so in step six it calls for setting the soln in the fridge for 3-5 days. Is the fridge needed? Could I set it anywhere and still have the FB crystallize in the container? Or do the cold temps simply facilitate faster crystallization?

Freezing will precipitate crystals faster but room temp will produce bigger crystals. You might want to check your solvent and see if there is any mimosa solution left in it for this will make the crystals less pure. Freeze precipitating and then recrystallizing to get all impurities out never hurt anybody. interesting choice of name btw... but who am i to judge

Thank you, his solvent (d-limo)is clean. He doesn't have the patience to re-x nor does he find it necessary...going on a month now for this...

You cannot FP or cleanly evaporate d-limo, you have to salt out with vinegar or fumaric acid.

I think primatesphynx has misunderstood the original post, this is talkign about the fumarate to freebase conversion, not about freeze precipitating dmt out of an organic solvent like with naphtha.

DMT will crystallize at room temp in that step 6, but it might take longer..Fridge def helps. If you dont use fridge, dont throw the water after you filter/scrape the dmt, keep the water and put it in the fridge or let it stand for a few more days and see if more has crystallized.

He's a little upset...the precipitated crystals literally resemble brown sugar. He poured off the liquid through a coffee filter and kept it - he'll see if cleaner product is recovered from that, but back to the situation at hand - How does he clean his crystals? Wash in water and let evaporate or wash in 99% IPA and let evaporate?

He obtained more from the BLAB than from the STB, but they are much much dirtier. He thinks it might be because he let the MHRB tea sit too long and dirty lysate was formed, thus allowing the Limo to pick up more than just alkaloid*. Plant oils and the like may be the cause of the browning, but another go at it will tell for sure. He supposes this is the tradeoff for trying to absorb as much alkaloid as possible...or is it?

*On second thought, could the browning be caused by other alkaloids that are in fact NOT harmful and NOT n,n, DMT (his main concern with the browning is that it is harmful)? He knows little about jungle spice or what ever it is called..

I think best way to clean it up is to turn it into fumarates again with FASA or FASI (dissolve in small amount of acetone and add FASA, let crystallize for a couple of days, or same but IPA and FASI), then re-convert them in freebase. This should clean up nicely (with some yield loss I guess). I dont think water wash will be effective, and you cant wash freebase with IPA because dmt will dissolve in it

There would be nothing harmful in your final product if your chemicals used didnt have anythign harmful themselves. Brown is probably some plant oils or natural plant impurities. How did the FASW or FASI look like before the conversion?

He used FASI for the salting.

So he takes the FB and redissolves in IPA and THEN add FASI and let re-X? This process reverts FB back to fumarate?

He took the DMT-Saturated Limo, added FASI (slowly and over the course of days - and in total, close to 50mL), and noticed the crystallization at the bottom of the jar in a day or so (the crystallization itself was not all white. Basically, the deeper into the jar, the darker the fumarate crystals were).

Upon retrieval of the fumarates from the jar, the fumarate crystals came out as large chunks of Orange colored crystal beds. This is where the first thoughts of "this will probably not end well" came up. Further reading in the Wiki persuaded him to take the orange clumps (now dry) and dissolve them in SEPARATE containers of ~20mL of water in an attempt to separate the Limo from the fumarate. As the crystal chunks dissolved, the 20mL water solution became off-white and foggy.

At this point, evaporation was initiated. Much impurities floated to the surface of the water during this step and were promptly removed. NOTE: He did NOT let the water completely evaporate. Instead, after about 2 hours of evaporation (read: fan and heat) he decided to combine all watery-DMT fumarate solution into one container, and immediately add Sodium Carbonate saturated solution. Much clouding was observed - milky opaque solution was formed, so he was hopeful that white crystals would be the end result. He let this soln sit in the fridge for close to 4 days.

He observed beautiful large, white crystals forming on the surface of this milky solution. Good. As he decanted the solution however, the crystals at the bottom of this container were grossly brown. And here he is wondering where he went wrong. Alas, he will try redissolving in IPA and re-fumarating..

SWIM's first pulls from BLAB with d-limo and FASI always look like brown sugar. She always assumed this was the jungle, as it works great but does require more by weight for the freebase conversion. Later pulls precipitate white.

Edit: Pretty sure there is nothing wrong here, the brown is just the jungle spice.

As ragabr said, its probably just fine to smoke that, considering you're using clean chemicals and all. The darker color from mimosa limo extraction is inactive plant impurities, plus some beta-carbolines, just good or neutral stuff, you would be fine to smoke that.

In any case yeah, the plan is what you said, redissolve in IPA, add FASI, let it crystalize for some days. That will reconvert freebase to fumarates. Then you can re-convert them if you want.

Ah, thank you. He was and is amazed at how much better the yield is compared to STB. He can actually observe crystalline growth as opposed to powder like substances. Beautiful.

Additionally the yield is well over a gram. Haven't measured it yet.

E: 1375mg ~170mg White, the rest a mix of brown/white/offwhite.
