Breakthrough substances?

Migrated topic.
I haven't yet personally had a breakthrough experience on any substance, but I was wondering about the general consensus on this: Is it only possible to have the "real" experience on DMT-related substances (DMT, psilocybin/psilocin, bufotenin, etc.), or would it be possible to have a breakthrough and hyperspace-like trip on other psychedelics as well? And I really mean anything that can have psychedelic effects, of course things like mescaline, LSD, and similar, but also things like MDMA and marijuana (both at very high doses, obviously).

With DMT and related substances this is all very possible. This means DMT, mushrooms, ayahuasca, etc. But also mescaline and cactus enable you to take a total plunge into other reality's.
Many people say that salvia does it as well, but with that i have no experience.

I wouldn't try it with MDMA or related compounds, since it is probably impossible and extremely high amounts are probably extremely unhealthy as well.
With cannabis you can get pretty far, but not so far that you get completely transported to another reality. If you take too much you just pass out or get sick.

LSD on itself can take you to the threshold of a breaktrough, but no further than that. In combination with harmala's though, it can induce true psychedelic breakthroughs as well.

There are many other substances that can bring you there with wich i have no experience, that are more exotic, harder to find or riskier:ibogaine, ketamine, PCP, or other novel tryptamines such as DPT.
I think those last substances would all require the presence of a sitter.

Of all these substances, DMT, ayahuasca, shrooms, mescalin and LSD+hamrala's, are the friendliest by far.
I would not try the others if i had no experience with powerfull breakthroughs.

I think of MDMA breakthroughs as less of a breakthrough and more like, your mind breaks temporarily. I stopped using MDMA because I kept vacating the premises and then coming when in very strange situations. Like one time I sat down in a chill out room at a festival... the next thing I know I'm somewhere else entirely and I was playing with some poor girls foot. Luckily I explained all and she was very understanding.

But Salvia is definately a breakthrough substance. More than DMT in a certain sense. Mescaline can be just like ayahuasca for myself at high enough doses. I've also heard some reports of extreme breakthroughs on ketamine, but I'll never touch that stuff.

I can confirm extreme breakthroughs (if you can call it that) on ketamine. You take enough of it and it'll give you VERY strange and peculiar experiences that you would think one cannot return from. But somehow you do, and to get these experiences you will have to go deep and far down into the so called K-Hole, and the more you visit the place the stranger it gets. At least in my experience^^

I haven't experienced DMT yet, so I cannot say for sure, but reading the reports of others here I got quite convinced that I experienced a full breakthrough on a half blotter of LSD back in 1996. (In my terms, a breakthrough happens when you "get out" of this world and wake up in a hitherto unknown but at the same time strangely familiar, wider reality.)

I think that one can break through some way or the other on many of these substances, as long as you focus inward while lying down and closing your eyes. Friends of mine have met entities while eating insane amounts of acid, people meet with entities and undergo all kinds of weird experiences while eating a whole lot of mushrooms and so on. Just eat/smoke/snort/whatever enough and I think you should be on your way!

With that said the characteristics and quality of the experiences will naturally vary from the one substance to the other.

Like a blackout?

Think MDMA covers only a narrow, more or less specific spectrum of the psychedelic experience. On higher doses there can be really trippy things though the hallucinations have no real meaning (for me). They are not like visions to me. It is as if my mnd is playing tricks on me. There will be things in the corners of my view of the world, but when I actualy become aware of them and look at them, then they are gone... There would be just a shadow, or a lamppost or so. Nevertheless, the authentic 'love' and 'all' feelings of the MDMA ride are meaningfull yes. Got to love the stuff for that.

Breakthroughs? no. Bliss? yes.
