ok,

at the end of this thread here...

i went into a bit of detail about how i may have managed to mess up a bit with my last naphtha pull on an A/B extraction.

following the advice given by Noman in the thread i allowed the solution in the wine glass to competely evaporate. it took just over 3 weeks!

what i was left with was 10g's of what i can best describe as a mustardy coloured material which had the consistancy of damp sand.

i seperated this into 2 lots of 5g's and did a re-crystallisation on each using 150ml of new naphtha. after the hot baths i combined the two solutions and stuck it in the freezer to precip. the result of this after drying (i let it dry upside down in the bowl naturally rather than attempting to quicken the process with a fan) was 3g's of what looked like white/yellowish freebase spice.
not content that it wasn't more white and crystally looking i decided to have another go and so stuck in the 3gs in 100ml of fresh naphtha and repeated the recrystallisation process again.

i've now got this...

2.1g's of what can be best described as like very small shards of glass but as can be seen... very yellow!

the questions are this...

what have i produced here?

why after two recrystallisations haven't i got white goodies?

should i smoke this or attempt to further clean it in some way? i must admit i'm tempted to go with the former on this question but would prefer the advice first of the good folk on this forum who are infinitely wiser than me!

take it easy one and all.

:d

Your crystals are perfectly good. It can take 5–7 recrystallisations to get very clean white spice, the oils can be quite hard to shift but you still have something perfectly usable already.

There’s no reason why you can’t smoke this now. Keep enough to keep you occupied for the next week or two and do a few more more recrystallisations on the rest of your goodies.

If you haven't already done it a sodium carbonate wash will remove a bit more crap. Filtering through activated charcoal will do wonders for de-colouring your product.

I'd smoke that...

but how did you recrystalise it? Did you use the minimal amount of warm naphtha in a shot glass or two, then sustain the temperature at around 30-40C for an hour? If you do that you should see oils dropping out the bottom leaving pure white spice in the solvent.

I think maybe because it spent quite a while evapping that some may have oxidised which may explain why the yield has lowered.

cheers for the reply, it's much appreciated.

i suppose another question is this...

is what i've got now (ie a more crystally looking product) a purer form of dmt than the more powdery looking but whiter freebase spice i got on my initial pulls when i first started the extraction many moons ago?!

It will be purer than it was initially as some crap will be left behind in the solvent.

Each pull gets more oily, especially if reusing solvent – are you combining all your pulls or keeping them separate?

hello mate!

nowhere near that amount of time. i stirred it quite rigourously for a few minutes whilst the glass was in a bowl of boiling water and then further let it stand in the bowl for ten minutes longer. as you can probably see in the picture above i used as a guide to recrystallisation the information given in the dmt handbook which doesn't stipulate any time period. (perhaps i should've further researched the recystallisation process on here and asked questions first rather than rely on the handbook??)

i have to admit i was rather puzzled as to how the original 10gs of mustardly looking stuff became 3gs of spice, because there certainly wasn't anywhere near 7gs of oils left in the original tumblers when i transfered it to a fresh one before begining the freeze precip process. i just assumed it had disappeared by tainting the colour of the what was very clear and new naphtha?

i really am the epitome of a novice mr soulfood!

i'm definitely gonna take your advice and have a smoke of it though!

a-ha!

you may very well have answered the question i've just asked soulfood!

incidently, i kept the naphtha from each of the recrystallisation pulls and then combined the whole lot (probably some 400ml in total) and stuck it back in the freezer just to satisfy my curiousity.

it yielded precisely nowt!
