Caapi questions

SWIM recently got his first caapi (yellow) and is planning on introducing himself to the vine only at first. As mentioned in a few places while searching he noticed that most people recommended yellow for first dips with aya. He mistakenly got some leaves when ordering but has 100g of shredded yellow. After realizing his mistake he ordered another 100g of yellow as well as 250g of Fresh Cielo vine as that is the next vine he wants to work with after researching.

SWIM couldn't find any information on the duration of a caapi only brew and is curious how long to expect. About the same 4-6 as a normal aya experience?

SWIM also wasn't sure if he should let the fresh Cielo vine dry out and save it dried for later use, because most likely it will be some time before he get's the chance to use the Cielo. He could however change his plans and introduce himself to the Cielo instead of the yellow first. Or perhaps instead of drying the vine when it arrives he could brew it all at the same time as the yellow and then store it for latter?

Also is it possible to take a cutting from the fresh vine (SWIM got his from maya) and attempt to grow it? SWIM would really like to be able to add this new plant to his home.

man if you got some fresh vine it would be a shame to not brew it before it dry's out i would think. ive read a few times that the potency of fresh vine is much better than vine thats been sitting around. why dont you brew now and freeze it? then you can get around to it whenever your ready.

my caapi only experiences lasted about 6+ hours that was drinking 100g yellow vine. as far as rooting a vine cutting i dont know if that's possible but i know you can buy live caapi vines from many different vendors.

I think the idea to brew it all at once and save it seems the best as well. I haven't found a ton of info in my search yet, but a few sentences here and there form minxx about using fresh vine were very positive. SWIM was interested in the whole fresh vine to add to the ritual with the pounding etc and was thinking it would be a long day of cooking followed by a taste, but now that I think about it up to 12 hours of brewing might not leave time for that anyway. Might as well brew up both the yellow shredded and cielo whole at the same time since he will be at the stove all day anyway.

I didn't expect the whole fresh vine to be transplant able, but my thumb isn't very green. My significant other is pretty good with that sort of thing, so maybe they can take a look at the Vine when SWIM get's it and let him know if it looks possible. If not I'm sure SWIM will be looking for a cutting to add to his garden at some point in the future.

Even though it means more work, might I be so bold as to suggest brewing the fresh and dried samples separately? I'd love to hear another opinion on the fresh vs. dried debate. I've always used dried for simplicity but I'd be willing to switch to fresh if it significantly altered the experience for the better. Of course, I understand completely if SWIM doesn't feel like expending more energy just for my edification .

If SWIM's caapi is woody and still pretty fresh, it can definitely be rooted! Just partially submerge a piece with a 'knuckle' in some well-draining soil and keep it humid with a plastic bag/humidity dome. It should start growing in a few weeks to a month and then it can be hardened off gradually to suit SWIM's climate. I've even rooted thin sapling-like pieces of vine, but they never produced any leaves, just roots. I eventually forgot to water them and they dried up :roll: .

If SWIM decides to root some of the vine, please report back with the results- I'd certainly be interested in hearing about SWIM's experience. Thanks!

Oh Swim plans to brew them separately, but at the same time. He will just need double the pots . Since he will be at the stove all day it seems like a good call to brew them both.

He probably can't make a decent comment on fresh vs dried from these samples since his fresh is Cielo and his Dried is Yellow. Actually I suppose I could convince him to dry say 50g of the cielo and use the remaining as fresh. If not he will for sure be trying some dried cielo in the future. He plans to get to know many different combinations of aya (though all with the actual aya vine and not rue). Though he nor I are Thelemite's we have always liked Crowley's saying "We place no reliance On Virgin or Pigeon; Our method is Science, Our aim is Religion"!

Hi Malaclypse!

As long as there is B. Caapi present, the tea is Ayahuasca--this can mean admixture plants, or no admixture plants. So, yes, 4-6 hours, maybe a bit longer, everything you read about "Ayahuasca" applies to Caapi alone, because Caapi IS Ayahuasca.

As for fresh vine, wash it right away!!

After washing, you *could* freeze it. Some people like to freeze their plant material before brewing to break down the cell walls. I would recommend cooking it AS fresh as possible, but if you can't, I would say, stick it in the freezer.

Finally, just make sure to sterilize a glass jar, and keep it in the fridge. The brew can keep at least 2 months this way.

As for trying to use it right away, I'm sure I won't have time the day it arrives. So say I want to skip the freeze could I keep it in the fridge (or just out) for that night and brew the next day or as soon as I can?
