Caapi tincture

So SWIM has some caapi that he wants to use to make a tincture from and then to evaporate onto some caapi leaf to use as a smokin admixture, either on its own or with some spice.
The question he is posing is, would 95% grain alcohol be sufficient for this or does he need 99%ipa or acetone.?

He has both grain alochol and acetone, but has more of the grain alcohol so is wondering if this is ok?

im sure its good.. the 5% being water, and harmalas of caapi being soluble in water, cant see why it would be a problem :)

the only thing is the last bit might take a while longer to evap, but thats it

and grain alcohol being food-safe, i would indeed go for that instead

So is it as easy as just covering your vine in the alcohol in a jar and leaving for a week?

id imagine...
powdering your vine is a help also..

if your going to be smoking it youll want to freebase it.. you could pull with acidic ipa then evap scrape and add base and water the dry and pull with acetone..

that seems like it would work to me

well i wasnt gonna do an extraction per se, i was just gonna evap onto some caapi leaf. That should do the trick right.

it very well could
i cant say for sure myself iv never tried it.. it stands to reason if you can smoke the plant with effect you should be able to smoke the alcohol extract... its just my thinking that itd be better to freebase it in some way, because thats the only way iv ever smoked harmalas and the results were fantastic...

in any case let us know what you end up doing

Ok, well i just put 100g of powdered/shredded caapi in a jar, along with about 10g of finely crushed caapi leaves.
I then poured in 1/3 acetone, with the rest being grain alcohol, until all the material was covered.
I shall report back in a week or so with results!!
