Yes. Very easy, very lovely, great anti-anxiety medicine, non-addictive for me. (Does not produce opioids.)

The dried husks of the seed pods can be used in various ways, the flower stamens are also worth collecting once the petals are about to drop if you grow a lot of plants, but mostly it's the root that gets used medicinally as an anxiolytic sedative.

The fresh foliage is mildly poisonous to ingest, e.g. if made into a tea. Dry it first.

Please keep a record of your grow - I'd love to see how it turns out. I used to have a planter of these with woodchip mulch and Psilocybe cyanescens 🥰

Got some seedingz, do u make extract? Interested in using it for my nerves.
Wait for them to grow BIG, then collect the seed pods before they burst, just as they start to dry out a little. Put them in a paper envelope while they dry out and pop open. Save the seeds for future planting, but powder the now empty pods.

If you have enough large plants, you can gather the roots as well. You'd best let them grow for a year or two (weather conditions permitting). Both the roots and the empty pods can be made into a tincture. The roots are stronger.

The fresh plant is toxic - it must be dried before use, but tbh I find the foliage a bit weak (although it was grown in the UK - warmer climates might well produce a stronger plant). Another nice thing to do was collecting the stamens from the flowers as they finished. Dried stamens in particular were quire nice to smoke, along with the petals.

I tryed. Too much sun.
Too much sun on the seedlings? I find I see random poppies (papavar somniferum) sprouting through spring snow in the garden, but come summer they love full sun!

Got my poppy game going this year, random seeds already growing naturally outdoors, and have seedling started indoors ready to be planted up into containers this week!

Never grown those kind of poppies but I would assume they should grow very close to other varities .... I always grow varities with te droids in them, but definitly not for everyone

Bout 2 try p. Som. Advice?
Cold scarification of seeds! Freeze some in ice cube trays, then place ice cubes in your intended pots or gardden, Sometimes ill deposit seed just before the snow falls and temps are already droping for winter. this way they are sprouting early and I'll get an extra harvest of poppies and early flowers.

I like to mix bone and blood meal into my soil in the fall along with other amendnments such as horse or cow shit. let it sit out over the winter months. Poppies love Nitrogen, so make sure to ammend your soils.

Sow seeds into their final location, as transplanting is not very easy and you will almost always lose your plants as they suffer tansplant shock and the tap root is very sensitve to being uprooted!

If growing in containers , don't over crowd your pots. they will grow laggy and smallish plants and pods

Be careful of Opiates, this shouldn't have to be ssid but a lot of people struggle with them and thats not something anyone wants or to have happen to anyone..

I tried to cultivate them, but they did not germinate.
Same here, well it says to lace them under a thin layer of soil, so i figured it would germinate itself by watering it and sun...but yeah I have some that gave started and very interested in these anxyilotic properties.

What would be the best way to use the pod, root, and/or flowers? I am guessing the best way is to dry and make smoke able herb (maybe mix it in the changa I have yet to make or explore).

Sow on top of soil, don't burry them, directly on top for best sucess IMO

Best way too use poppies, stay away from them if you have an addictive personality......... But for the average grower, making a tea is your best bet. you can use dried leaf/plant matter and pods ( Save seeds to start a new garden next year).

You can also Simmerr down your tea/water extract, oover low heat to a small portion, then let Evap under a fan to made a crude puddy/tar which can be stored and one can add a few pea sized pods to a tea to enjoy mild sedating/ euphoric effects.

Again be mind full of poppy teas as they are pretty potent, and contain many alkaloids and can be very addictive if abused, most home growers won't have a large enough harvest per year to worry about this but something to concider.

Opium poppies are truly fascinating, but keep focus here on California poppies ;)
Thanks, and everyone here may do well in remembering to contemplate this:

Safe and constructive drug talk

This forum is not a place for superficial unsafe talk of drugs such as excessive use and dosages, unsafe combinations and settings and careless use of substances that naturally have a riskier profile without due disclaimers and clear signs of having learned from mistakes and offering insights for better usage. See this thread for more info: Policy regarding discussion of different drugs. Substances such as research chemicals have some added dangers that should be taken in account and explicitly recognized when talking about them in the forum, as this thread explains.

Also we do NOT give medical advice here (such as telling people not to see doctors and go to shamans for serious medical problems, etc), as this thread explains. Lastly, please read the Health and Safety section and the for contraindications, facts and tips on safety, reducing risks, dealing with difficult experiences, integrating the trips and maximizing benefits.
Please pay special attention to this (not so new, but still relevant) discussion:

There is so much California poppy here and I never see anyone harvesting it. It lines the highways and rocky seaside cliffs and almost seems invasive. I’m a bit north of its native range so I guess it’s just naturalized.

Wait I thought Cali was not a narcotic? I planted California Poppy seeds..and my general curiosity of how the effects may be is actually why I decided to try and grow some.
