A high to everyone, SWIM is new to DMT and has a question he would like to know if ph down could be used for the acid part of the extraction insted of vinegar SWIM has growth technology brand and they say itis 81% orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4)

Have just noticed that pH down contains citric acid and ammonium bisulfate or mono ammonium phosphate. So I don't know if the bisulfate or the phosphate would enter into the equation.

Anyone any more info on the use of pH down???

You can get Phosphoric acid 75% from home brew shops, in the UK its about £3.50 for 250ml..

A quick msds check shows that Growth Technology is Phosphoric acid and water so it will be fine

SWIM thought it would be a good idea to use his ph down since he has used it before and the bottle was just sitting around not doing much for the past six months

The answer is yes, but begs the question why? Vinegar is cheap abundant, has no control and works perfectly well.

I would plump for phos. purely on the issue of smell; vinegar cooks have really started to grate on me over the years, stink up the house for days.

Why not use citric acid? It doesn’t smell. That’s what SWIM uses for nearly all extractions. You can get food grade citric acid pretty cheap. It's much safer than industrial grade pH down.

GT stuff works great. For ease of use its helpful to dilute a quantity by 10 parts water and work from that. I have a 4 year old bottle that's still nearly full:)

you definitely got your money's worth there lol, how many bottle's of vinegar would have been used in that time? and plus the smell SWIM can imagine that would be quite strong
