Cant get white crystals

Hello all,

SWIM has been doing multiple pulls but cant seem to get white crystals. The closest SWIM gets is white with yellow tinge but thats only happened 2 out of 10 pulls. All the others are brown crystals. SWIM says that the brown is awesome but he really would like to know the trick.

Doing:

Lye/Water/MHRB powder/NP For Heat, the whole concoction is soaked in a hot water bath. Even tried benzine Re-X and wash with sodium carbonate. What is he doing wrong?

Seems to always be an oily residue too.
 
Heating the base mixture itself (rather than just the NP) is said to pick up more 'impurities', and so lead to discoloured product. Were you freeze precip-ing?

The freeze precip was used at first and resulted in one batch of the yellowish crystals. No Re-X was used on that. Air evap was used for successive pulls and resulted in mostly brown crystals and some goo. Re-X with Benzine cleaned up a little but still brown.

Are you saying to use warm NP on cold base?

Oh, glad to be here. been a member for a few weeks mostly reading to find answers. Figured I better post befor SWIM runs out of MHRB :)

Well that's what SWIM did and got decent results, but (I'm reading now that) most people think warm naphtha pulls more yellow...so maybe try not heating anything next time. Having a look at this thread might help you.

Good luck, and remember...you don't have to have it pure white for it to be effective.
 
Swim will pull off the NP, heat it and drop it back in.

Agreed on the color spice. Swim tried the light yellow crystals and the effects were less pronounced, didn't last as long and invited a second hit. The brown comes on while hitting or holding smoke, intense visuals, lasts a full 6-7 min before beginning to dissipate. A second hit is a scary thought.

That's another thing, I have a few gig of Terence McKenna MP3's. He talks a lot about spice. According to him, three hits are needed for a breakthrough. He says that the third hit is what separates the serious explorer from the recreational user. Swim is a serious explorer and as Terence puts it, Swim "crawls to the edge of the screaming abyss" then backs down instead of jumping in.

Are three really necessary for breakthrough?
 
SWIM tried heating just the NP, putting it in and swirling it around. SWIM repeated the swirl 3 or 4 times over the course of the afternoon. The NP remained clear. SWIM let it sit for 24hrs, swirling every so often. Still clear NP. SWIM gave in and threw the whole jar in a hot bath, swirled a few times and got. Went back to freeze precip with it and viola, white crystals. SWIM told me that he would set it out for a half hr and throw it back in the freezer for another 24 hrs and see if more crystals form.

White crystals BTW.

SWIM doesnt understand why he got clear NP unless spice just refuses to migrate to room temp NP.

Also, if spice likes warm NP, will spice migrate back to base if the NP cools down? If not, what keeps it in the NP after cooling. Just wondering...
 
me too, pretty white powdery crystals with a slight tint of yellow using Q21Q21's tek with naphtha and little bit hasty freeze precipitation, especially the first 2 pulls. The 24h pull was mostly yellow.
 
Finally!! Still, this was the result of heating the whole mixture, not just the NP.

endless: SWIM tried the re-x using benzine but little difference was seen in color. A sodium carbonate wash in conjunction with the bezine re-x yielded no real change.

anyway, I guess not sticking to freeze precip was the problem. pics will follow...
