caramel crystalized look to the pipe after smoking (pics inside)

well a friend suggested i buy a meth kind of pipe for now since they are so cheap (i will soon get a vaporgenie) so a friend hit the spice didnt feel anything and they crystals melted into some kind of liquid then i went ahead and hit the liquid that was inside and boy did i blast off it was very intense very fun trip. while i was in space my friend hit the pip two more times and he also was in space but it wasnt very intense he said. well when him and i looked at the pipe after smoking it their was still some liquid left and 10min later we looked again and it looked like it was recrystalizing well here is a pic you gus are the pros so let me know what yo guys think it is THANKS!!!!

Looks like DMT oxide. Meaning: It received too much heat, and oxidized. It's probably still active, although I imagine it will taste bad. This is why I never use those kinds of pipes.

It’s not necessarily oxides of DMT, but probably an assortment of pyrolysis products, which may or may not be active. If heated even more, it will get darker and darker, until all that’s left is a black spot of mostly carbon.

Here’s some condensation from my GVG. Notice how nice and white it is: evidence that the GVG is not overheating the spice.

I've had crystallization much like that in my GVG too, but the pattern in the crystals you just posted gibran, are almost exactly like some of the patterns I saw earlier tonight and have seen on a handful of occasions. It's tantalizing.

at first sight I thought that you actually decorated your GVG scrapping on it very artistically. but the fact that this is from crystalization its more wonderful still. Never dare to clean up your GVG man!

totally par for the coarse with this type of pipe. i used the same style for over a hundred journey's and what you have there is simply the recrystallized dmt. it always gets a bit yellow from the heat but its not necessarily burned like some have suggested. its fine.

heres a great tip for your smoking method. keep a wet wash cloth near you when vaping. after each hit while your holding it in put the bulb on the wash cloth to cool it, ice cold water is best. this stops excess heat from building in the dmt liquid which tends to hold massive heat then burn. also if you notice the dmt will eventually just stop making vapor. this is because it has over heated. the wash cloth trick stops this from happening and keeps the vapor rolling on.

Interesting...back when i was crack-piping it I'd either click the lighter on and off or move it back and forth from the bulb once the dmt liquified in order to keep a stable vaporization temp. You could see the liquid dmt kick up little plumes of vapor. It worked great and I rarely burned the spice.

Actually, it is burned. Or more specifically, a small amount of it has burned enough to cause the entire mass to take on a different color. Since it’s only a small amount that has burned, the overall effects won’t be noticeably different.

It’s not that different from caramelizing sugar – a little heat causes a slight change in color, and more heat for longer periods will cause it to get darker and darker: more and more carbonization. Even when very dark, there’s still some sugar remaining, but not much.

pic one is 25mg of dmt that has been stored correctly in descacant on a glass dish.
pic two i just barley heated the spice up only enough to melt it.
pic three is the dmt recrystallized.

notice it looks very close to the OP's pic.:d

Hi guys, has anyone ever tried to dissolve these recrystallised deposits in naptha/ solvent?
I have a home-made light bulb vaporiser that I used to vape my crystal the day I made it, it's got a coating of slightly orange crystal inside and I've been debating swilling some naptha around inside and then using that to make some infused herb changa.
What do you think?

Ahh... I see.

What you have there is some impure spice, so naturally the impurities present will remain after heating and will color the product just as they did before heating.

I jumped to the conclusion that everyone, like me, recrystallizes to get snow-white spice.

From my earliest attempts at using a “test tube” vaporizer, I can assure you that DMT can and does decompose upon extended exposure to high temperature. Depending on temperature and who knows what other factors, it will decompose long before it all vaporizes. In fact, the reason that a boiling point (at standard atmospheric pressure) is never listed in chemical literature is because DMT decomposes before it reaches its BP.

If you’re starting with pigmented spice it’s harder to see the color change, but there is indeed a color change when spice is heated, and the color gets darker and darker.

Sacrifice a bit of spice for science – put some DMT in a test tube and heat it somewhat more aggressively than you would when trying to vaporize it, and you’ll see that it gets darker. Let it cool and crystallize, then repeat a few times. Each time it will be darker than the last, and each time less vapor will be produced.

@ Biskotso - Use acetone to remove the residue, then evaporate. You will recover quite a bit of (impure!) spice that way.

Use acetone or isopropyl alchohol. Whether you'd wanna evap or go straight to changa, you'd wanna use one of those and not naptha

I was advised by a friend to use naptha to make changa, which is what I did and it seems fine..? The naptha evaporates very cleanly and is used by many to hold DMT in solution before evaporation or precipitation so I can't imagine a problem. Any comments/ help? X

In the future, just use isopropyl alcohol (92% works just fine) and you can get it at most convenience stores. I'm honestly unsure why you shouldn't use naptha other than I've always heard not to. I always figured if so many of these people here at the nexus already have naptha in the house (which for logical reasons seems like it should work), but choose not to, there's probably a good reason. I know that this wasn't much of an answer, but I'm sure someone will have a better one :lol:

haha! O' i know all about burning dmt from my early days. no need to sacrafice more live soldiers. :lol: yes with the bulb/test tube method its very easy to over heat hence my wet cloth trick.

i have both pure white snow flakes and the more yellow dmt always on hand. i dont know why but i prefer the darker. in fact i wish i had some dlimo so i could get the really beautiful deep orange dmt!!!! that stuff has a place in my heart probably because it was the first dmt i ever vaped. :d
