[Changa] Can't light without Burning :S

Migrated topic.
Hello!

So I read all this stuff with:

Do not directly put the flame into the Changa

Do use a layer of ashes on top of it, so it won't burn.

So it does not really work, but maybe I can figure out, when asking some questions:

If the flame is NOT directly on the changa, how will it ever get hot enough ??
I assume this is meant: The flame is staying above the bowl and when you pull air through it, it INDEED gets sucked into the bowl, but then directly leaves the bowl again, when you stop sucking air through it.

Is this correct?
So the flame ineed touches your material, but only when you pull air through your bong?

1.) Also it is said that I should only light the Blend for the first seconds and then put off the flame and combust it with solely sucking air through it.

Sadly the material gets unlighted again, if I don't keep sucking air + holding the fire in a way, it gets sucked into the bowl.
So no fire on = no further lit Changa.

2.) And for the layer of Ashes: I don't smoke anything at all except this, so I thought: I will use Salt (lol).

I guess it should definetly be fine, as it is a non-combusting layer on top of it, which protects it from direct heat ?

3.) There was a guy telling this:
"the main purpose of the herb is to protect the DMT from direct flame, so with changa or enhanced leaf unlike freebase DMT you can smoke it without worrying much about burning it.."
(On the Thread *Enhanced Leaf vs. Changa?*)

So when I read it it sounds like I would not really have to pay attention for not combusting, as I use Changa and not plain DMT. Is this correct? So is the way I do it fine and even with the flame touching the bowl all the time I would NOT have to fear combusting the material instead of evaporating it?

THXXX!

that guy is me so i think my opinion won't make much difference

you can "smoke" your changa normally but don't go on and burn the hell out of it, first you might burn some of the DMT and the smoke will be hotter so just smoke it gently.. keep the lighter close to the bowl and let it touch it whenever needed
with changa a little bit of the DMT might be burned/wasted but it's just a little so no worries, changa/enhanced-leaf is a good solution for people who don't have a proper way to vaporize freebase DMT

Ok so I am a really dumb person, so I need to ask one more time to get it exactly how you do it:

1. You place the fire in front of the bowl and not in the bowl itself, so that it is held in a little distance and not touching the bowl.

2. You suck air through the bowl and this makes the flame being drawn into the bowl and THEN touching the material.

3. You stop sucking the air and then flame is getting out of the bowl again.

Is this correct ?
So if done this way the flame will be in the bowl when you NOT pull air 0% of the time
and be in the bowl when you pull air 100% of the time

That's how I imagine it for now.

So you can say whether I got it right or not, but I also have another idea, which may be very good:

Buying a Lighter which is not a regular one, but a lighter with a *swooshing flame*. I really don't know how to explain this in english, but there are lighters, who dont produce a "regular" flame, but one which is not moving when you move the lighter and just burning straight forward, just like when you have a welding apparatus - I guess they're called *Torch Lighter*:

My idea is:

Not holding this like the idea above, but start sucking air through the bowl and then keep waggle the torch lighter from left of the bowl above the bowl to the right - very fast all the time. So I don't know if it's clear what I mean, but to move it so fast that it only touches the bowl in the middle for a very short time. I sadly don't have something like this by hand, I may buy some if I can find a good one for not too much, but are there any persons who have made any experiences with this kind of lighter?

THXX

I use changa mainly. This is what I do:

nick the top of the changa pile, really quickly, just enough to lightly cherry the top, then I draw really loooong slowwww hits, carefully pulling the cherry along, usually 1-2 hits and it's seeyah.

another good method I do is put my changa in the pipe, then put a light layer of ground caapi leaves over top, light the top of the layer, pull slow and longgg, get a tiny tiny bit of harmala in the draw along with the startings of the changa pile, and with this sometimes one giiiiant looong slooow draw can get me there within seconds.

Sounds good. It's simply that when my Herbs are lit, then they don't last long enough to be smoked when putting the flame away. I've never heard the word cherry - it means that you lit the herbs I guess. And this cherry only lasts for a little bit, so I cannot smoke everything within that time - if I don't keep doing it with fire alongside.

Maybe I'll have to check this idea with the torch lighter.

Are you using a bong? Or some other pipe? Also, is your changa is mainly mullein? It tends to burn too fast -- like whooooooosh.....otherwise do as Tatt said

BTW, this a reasonable good lighter, unlike the arc, you don't have to slide the button downward (towards the handle area) but you just press the button. It also has easily accessable flame adjusting (no screwdriver needed) and it has a security functionality to stop 0ne(1) from accidently pressing the button whilst having it in a pocket....etc

Yes, it has a hissing-blue-flame that stands (horizontal/upside-down) erect like a jedi light sabre..i.e. it won't bend/bow and be sucked torwards (your herb) when gently pulling.

So these 2 lighters are good in terms of using with Changa ? (and the first one having a benefit, as I dont need to push the button all the time)

Well those are exactly what I mean, but sadly I have seen some reviews of cheap torch lighters and they weren't really good reviewed:

- stopped working from a few first times

- did not work after refilling

- 20 pulls to get a flame

So do you really have no problem using that cheap ones ? I'd really also want to buy one of those, but I'm just too skeptic for now after reading this ;P

(And no Mullein - just Caapi + Calea Leaves - and using Bong)

We have both these lighters and the (zico) arc is broken now (at the switch). The 0ne(1) from the first link still works like a charm. These metal arcs (zico) are very heavy -- like a gun almost. Due to the weight, if it falls down it can break. So ours fell down from a piano and then the mechanical parts underneath the switch broke and this is area you cannot access.

The first (link) lighter is very good, we use the cheapest gas to refill.
No problems.

(...and the first one having a benefit, as I dont need to push the button all the time)

You mis-understood, there is no perma flame i.e. you'll have to push the button (and hold it as per EU regulation)

Both are good lighters.

pro/cons
The zico arc is not as per EU rulez & regulation, that is, the switch goes very easy, even a two year old child can pull it.

The other 0ne(1) (1st link:Zorr) has child safety and you have to press the button hard, it has potruding black plastic thingy on the opposite side as a counter-grip support.

The above lighters are not like these 3 $ torch lighters from the convenience store. The problem with these very cheap lighters is the battery, the ignition wiring (flimsy) and the flame would often go out when pointing the flame downward....

But 10 $ is not really 'cheap' and these are good lighters. Also the zico arc cannot be sold from within the EU, so you have to order it from the US -- it takes ages to arrive.

Get the first lighter (Zorr) it's a good 0ne(1). We used it for over a year now, every day for ciggies, incense stick, doobies and cooking stove and whatnot -- not just DMT & changa, and it works like a charm. We think these are Brazil made (German engineering) (?)

It really feels good in the hand.....and is light-weight
...also 'Zor' means forceful or strong (The Force) in Urdu and some other languages (Hindi/Punjabi: Jor) In Moroccan darja it means to pull and drag along (Zorr).

BTW: if the changa is too dry, moisten it (can put in a glass jar with a small piece of fresh apple peel and let sit over night - try not let the apple peel touch the herb directly) Works best in a small glass jar, like a caper berries jar....etc

While I havent used changa very many times as I typically prefer the spice on its own (although this is subject to change) I have experienced breakthrough using a bong and this is also the method I taught my grandson. Use a small bong (maybe 6" tall-a steamroller of the same size would probably work great too). To avoid sucking it in, pack a small amount of weed (if you dont smoke use mullein or whatever you have in your changa) underneath to act as a "green screen". Pack the dose of changa on top of this and cover with another very thin layer of cannabis. Dont touch the flame to it or suck too hard so as to pull the contents through your bong. Inhale slowly and gently, hold the flame above the bowl. The heat around the flame will gradually cause the changa to combust. You want to try to clear the whole bowl in one toke if you can. If followed properly, these instructions should lead you straight into wonderland.
