So I had a tree that was growing up into the power line that comes from the street into my house. I have had several issues with branches falling into the lines disrupting power and costing allot of money. The decision was made to cut down the tree. I love trees and was bummed that we were cutting it down, so I decided to turn the tree into something special. A man that lives down the road from me carves wood with a chain saw as a hobby and was more than happy to come out and help me with the tree removal. Once the tree dries out a bit I will take a blow torch to the low areas to highlight/outline the fungus better, then it will be sanded and sealed with urethane stain/sealent. I'll post another pic of them when tey are finished.

WOW man! That is actually REALLY fucking cool!!! Have you thought about finding a compatible fungi (for whatever kind of wood / tree that is) and trying to fruit some spawn plugs? Even if you just fruit edibles or whatever, it would be pretty cool to fruit mushrooms from a mushroom tree! :)

Peace,

thats pretty righteous and extra awesome...though if it was my project i would finish it slightly different, i would innoculate it with mycelium dowels or spore slurry or somethin, then you would have a fungus sculpture growin a fungus garden...but thats just me, im sure your sealed sculpture will be awesome x 19937

wow

that is so awesome! People all over should do this instead of cutting down the whole tree! :d

it reminds me of the wooden mushroom carvings that were sparked at a full moon party at alex greys'

I completely agree! I have a tree I need to take down, and IH has inspired me.

Now, I'm really glad I wasn't at that fire universecannon, because I'm pretty sure I would have dove in head first and tried to save / eat those gorgeous specimens! :d

Peace,

The sculpture is going to be sealed, However, there will be Psilocybe cyanescens growing all around the base in bout a 6 foot radius. My plans are to put a nice rock circular border around it and then I will fill the border in with hardwood-alder chips that will be inocculated with ps cyanescens spawn this spring. I have had outstanding success doing this in the past. The location of the sculpture is ideal for this. It is in the shade at least half of the day.

The artist will be back out in a few days to burn in the hi-lites with a blow torch and then I'll post the new pics. Looks like I need to compress them a bit before I post em.
