I'm prepping for my first extraction and wondering if the lime (Ca(OH)2) I've selected with be ok. I will be using Q21Q21's tek #2 (white fluffy funfest!).

I was planning on buying this since it's $5 cheaper than the other lime ($15 for 1 kg of lime); my only worry is it doesn't mention chemical grade lime and I didn't want to purchase food grade after reading a recent thread on it*:
"Slaked type S lime"

Other lime that's definitely chemical grade but it's more expensive ($10 for .5 kg:
"lab grade calcium hydroxide"

Thanks for you help in advance!

Type S hydrated lime is a mixture of Calcium Hydroxide and Magnesium oxide, something that you don't want.

Suppliers can only be mentioned within the suppliers subforum. New rules of that subforum.
Oh ok. I can't post in that subforum yet but that's fine, this is my last material I need to prepare for my first extraction.

So lab grade Calcium Hydroxide would be good to use? I just want to make sure before I spend the money.

my bad, he was talking about impurities in the other brand, hi-yield. thanks crazy horse. Have you used mrs wages before (or another pickling lime)? I want to confirm the product with at least one purpose.

Yes I picked up some Ms. Wages from Wally-Mart for a few bucks, no problems. Many others have used it as well. I believe it's also specified in the Q21Q21 instructions as his preference too.

Q21 is a good tek, really simple stuff just like following a recipe in a cookbook. One thing I don't think he mentions, you can evaporate the leftover naptha after doing your freeze precip, and get some jimjam out of it for making changa, or re-extracting.

yeah I looked at a number of teks and finally settled on his tek.

as for jimjam- I know he says to allow the naphtha to evaporate after freeze precip, but how would you get jimjam from it evaporating?

I'm not an expert, only done this once and it's been awhile, but as I understand it only the pure DMT is removed from the naptha during freeze precip, and there's other alkaloids and mystery compounds left floating in the naptha. So if you pour it into a dish and let it evaporate, you'll be left with a layer of sticky stuff on the dish. That would be the jimjam. You can scrape it up and purify it more (I think, haven't done this), or you can infuse it into herbs.
