Chemistry textbook recommendations for self-study

I want to improve my knowledge of chemistry theory, which is very basic (although it has improved since being active here and doing some extractions). I would like to first learn better the basics and then learn organic chemistry. I personally learn better from textbooks, although many textbooks from the last two decades are thought more as a teaching aid than self contained. Does anyone have a recommendation for one or more chemistry textbooks that are self contained and thus suitable for self-study?

How weird, I am currently starting the very same thing. I am reading through Organic Chemistry by Paula Bruice - not sure how self contained it is (I'm reading this to prepare for more formal study too) but it explains the 'why' along with the 'how', which is really useful to me, along with lots of useful footnotes and interesting bits of information about the topic. I struggle to learn anything new without a reason, but knowing the purpose lets it make more sense to me.

Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can give you better options, but in the meantime, there are a few more book suggestions here. Best of luck!

Edit: found a few more options here

Advanced Practical Organic Chemistry:

Not a theoretical book. As title states its practical. Its about how to setup and run reactions, handle reagents, etc. Easy to read and understand.
