Just a very simple question, I read some people use a coffee filter to filter the boiled mhrb into a clear solution.

I tried this yesterday, but the fluid doesn't want to "filter" out of the filter at all, it just stays inside the coffee filter.

Should I use another type of filter?

Were you filtering hot brew? The tannins precipitate out rapidly upon cooling. This happens directly in the filter, clogging it within seconds. An easier approach is to strain out the coarser bark particles with a suitable sieve, then let the finer particles settle out while the brew cools.

Another popular method is to use cloth, like a piece of t-shirt material.

Either way, paper filters or overly fine mesh won't cut it.

Thanks, will try it. I used a cloth before but it's a bit clumsy because the brew is boiling hot.

It's a matter of securing and/or supporting a cloth of suitable dimensions, so being properly prepared should help an awful lot - and, as I just mentioned, the brew deposits more and more tannins as it cools, sooooo…

Chill, settle and decant. Simples.
