Color blind. Will he see colors? Poll

So my crew leader wants to try DMT the thing is he is color blind! I'm curious as I'm sure you all are if he will perceive colors.

He can differentiate colors but only some he is 100% color blind. Hopefully we can complete this study this week.

I think he will but not know which colors are what but see unfamiliar colors.

He believes he won't.

What do you think?
 
I would say yes. I am partially color blind in the area of yellow and orange and when I see the colored geometric patterns, those colors are always surprisingly vivid. The bottom line is that the deficient cones that are responsible for relaying colors to the brain have nothing to do with the hallucinations.
The question is that if he's never seen color, will he recognize color for what it is or as some sort of synesthesia?

I'm just suggesting that if it's something never perceived before in the visual cortex, it could be misunderstood as stimuli from other senses. He might have a tactile sensation from purple or smell green or hear blue.

This article suggests that I may be completely wrong though if he's been color blind his entire life.

Do blind people hallucinate on LSD?
 
I would like to say yes that he will, and I hope he does see the beauty of hyperspace, everyone deserves to see that at least once.

I'm not color blind myself but when I'm on a journey in the dark all the color I see is not dependent upon external light. The light seems to be inside my head. As you mentioned he may not recognize individual colors but I think he will recognize that he is seeing something that is very different from what he's used to seeing.

Very curious about this, keep us posted on the outcome.
 
We will be completing the experiment this weekend. He says he wants to shoot for breakthrough!

I'm excited to see how this goes.
 
God speed to him. That must be such a tough life to live. We taken vision for granted so much, it is the very thing that orients us the most in the world we live in. :love:
 
I personally am quite confident he will see full colors.

As many color blinds can anyways see colors with some special corrective glasses.

And they then immediately recognize/see colors, that they have never seen before without problems. So it seems to me, the basic color identification is very deeply rooted in the brain, and works immediately even for people not being able to see these colors before.

BTW: These correction glasses work by filtering a certain range of wavelengths.
Color Blinds usually have the problem that usually two of their color receptors have a too similar wavelengths response, basically always activating both at once or none.
The glasses then block any wavelength these cones share, like that this double activation for a single wavelength cannot happen anymore.
The inventor of the glasses got aware of this effect, while working in the laser lab, as there you have glasses blocking a certain wavelength. He as a color blind suddenly saw different colors, and asked himself, why.

There are certainly also other causes for color blindness, but AFAIK this type is the most common.

But again this is surely just a guess. And I take no responsibility for the correctness of my explanation...
